Once upon a time in a not-so-far-away swamp…

There lived two handsome black-and-white tuxedo cats who were the living, breathing, slightly chaotic reincarnation of Shrek and Donkey.

Dexter (5 years old) is your classic Shrek.

A striking, broad-shouldered gentleman with the cool confidence of an ogre who’s seen it all. He values his personal space, lounges in the best elevated spots like a true king of the swamp, and approaches life with quiet dignity. He’s not loud, not demanding, and definitely not interested in unnecessary drama. But just like Shrek, beneath that slightly grumpy “get off my lawn” exterior lives a big, loyal heart.

His love language is subtle: a gentle head bump, a soft purr, or simply choosing to sit near you and share the silence. Layers, people. Onions have layers. Ogres have layers. Dexter has layers.

Inky (2 years old) is pure Donkey energy in cat form.

Younger, louder, endlessly affectionate, and completely convinced that Dexter is the best thing that ever happened to him. He follows his best friend everywhere (yes, even to the litter tray), provides constant commentary, and will absolutely tell you exactly what he wants and when he wants it.

He’s a professional snuggle-bug (on his own terms), loves belly rubs, head scratches, diving under the covers at bedtime, and the occasional late-night zoomie session before collapsing into a happy heap. He is, in short, the clingy, chatty, heart-of-gold sidekick every household needs.

Together they are the ultimate odd-couple fairytale friendship. Dexter pretends to find Inky mildly irritating… while secretly allowing him to stick to his side like glue. Inky brings the chaos, the chatter, and the extra love. Dexter brings the calm, the cool, and the steady presence. They balance each other perfectly and are clearly happiest when they can stay together, just as the universe (and DreamWorks) intended.

Their story so far:

These two were well loved by their previous family, but the arrival of a new baby meant they could no longer receive the time and attention they deserve. Their humans made the kind and responsible decision to find them a new forever home where they can continue their epic bromance in peace.

What their perfect castle looks like:

A relatively calm home where they can snuggle on the couch, sunbake together by the window (Inky does love a good tan, though shade is appreciated for that sleek black coat), enjoy gentle play, and live out their days as the undisputed stars of the household. They’re indoor cats who also enjoy safe outdoor rolls and strolls.

Very young or particularly loud children are best avoided - this is a sophisticated swamp, not a toddler playpen.

They currently reside in Murrumbeena under the watchful (and slightly amused) eye of their very own Princess Fiona - one of our wonderful foster carers.

Dexter & Inky are desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, and ready for their happily ever after.

If you have room in your heart and home for a cool, independent ogre and his devoted, talkative donkey sidekick, these two would love to meet you. They come as a pair, they stay as a pair, and they are hoping to find their forever swamp together.

About Us

Urban Feline Australia is a small, independent cat rescue dedicated to saving surrendered cats from kill shelters and finding them loving, permanent homes.

Founded and run by a passionate animal lover with the support of dedicated friends and volunteers, we specialise in caring for cats that have previously lived in family homes but, for various reasons, can no longer stay with their owners.

Since our inception, we have been fortunate to build a small but dedicated network of volunteer foster carers. These compassionate individuals welcome the surrendered cats into their homes, providing them with love, care, and a safe environment while we search for their perfect forever families.

As a tiny, grassroots rescue with no government funding or large facilities, every rescue is powered by compassion, community support, and a genuine commitment to animal welfare.

All adoption fees and donations go directly toward the essential needs of the cats in our care — including premium food, veterinary treatment, litter, equipment, and ongoing medical support. We rely heavily on the generosity of our foster carers, volunteers, and supporters to continue our work.

Our long-term vision is to expand so we can help even more cats in need. This includes securing a larger dedicated property and, one day, possibly opening a cat café to raise awareness and funds while creating a welcoming space for cat lovers.
