About Poppy
Meet Poppy, a calm and gentle soul who's ready to share her golden years with a loving family. Poppy is a sweet and affectionate little lady who adores human company and thrives in a peaceful environment. Her bright eyes and loving heart make her a delightful companion, and she has a special talent for leaning in for pats and cuddles. Although she's working on her enthusiasm for hugs, her affection never fails to warm the hearts of those around her.
Poppy's ideal lifestyle is one of tranquility, as she prefers a quiet, calm retirement with minimal changes to her routine. She's an experienced loose lead walker, happily joining you on strolls, although her occasional pull for the front of the group keeps life interesting. Poppy is social and enjoys playing with other dogs, especially her best friend Billy. As she continues to learn the ropes of off-lead play, a medium-to-large canine companion will be the perfect partner to guide her and keep her comfortable when you're occupied.
In her new home, Poppy would flourish with a small to large backyard to explore, though a spacious apartment would suffice, too. Poppy is particularly fond of having a fellow dog around, especially during work hours, to avoid confinement-induced anxiety. She needs a soothing and understanding environment as she continues to learn how to interact with smaller dogs. Her gentle nature makes her best suited for a household with children aged 8 and above, as she can get a bit anxious with loud noises or sudden changes.
Poppy's unique charm and graceful adaptation to life, even after the amputation of her front toe, showcase her resilience. Although untested with pocket pets and cats, her adaptability and gentle spirit make her an excellent addition to a family willing to offer a patient, loving, and stable forever bond. Embrace Poppy into your heart and home, and you'll receive an abundance of love and companionship in return.
Medical notes
No know allergies. Has had a toe amputated on her left foreleg, due to a chronic grass seed wound that resisted all forms of treatment. This is not expected to cause her any issues later in life.
Has had a dental clean recently.
Adoption details
Step 1: Please contact Anna Rogers, Dog colony supervisor (anna.rogers@tafesa.edu.au) for an application form.
Step 2: Return the completed application form to Anna Rogers. Once we receive your completed application form along with a minimum of 5 photos of your property showing various views of your backyard covering gates, fences, shelter areas for the greyhound and any other area (i.e. inside the house) the greyhound will be residing in. This is so we can assess your property as safe and suitable for a greyhound and match you to the dog that best suits your environment/lifestyle.
Step 3: We will match you with the dog best suited to your situation and lifestyle.
Step 4: A meet in greet will occur with all family members including any existing pet dogs. If everyone gets along and the application is successful, the dog will then be collected at an agreed later date.
Step 5: Collect the dog and shower them with love!
All the greyhounds up for adoption are desexed, microchipped, wormed and vaccinated. The dogs also have had regular dental checks and cleans.
All the dogs come with:
- their lead & collar,
- muzzle (if they require one),
- full medical history since they arrived at Tafe,
- desexing and vaccination certificates,
- a winter jacket,
- a blanket that smells of them and,
- a week's supply of dry dog food for you to transition the dog to the food of your choice.
This pet has been adopted and found love with its new family.
