Meet Buddy!
Buddy came into rescue straight off death row with his siblings, who we named Honey and Stanley. They were abandoned in terrible condition, very underweight and with fleas and worms. They were in great need of that 'OTC TLC' so we stepped up and got to work. We brought the trio into our care, and they're all on their feet now and ready to find their forever homes!
Buddy is a gentle, affectionate boy who can be a little shy at first, but once he knows he’s safe, he bonds deeply with his people. He’s loyal, soft natured, and a great companion. He currently lives with three other dogs in a busy household and fits in beautifully. Buddy is very social with other dogs and thrives with canine companionship. His ideal home must have another friendly, playful dog to help him feel secure and confident. This isn’t optional as Buddy does not cope well as an only dog.
Buddy does pretty well out in public too. He can look to his humans for reassurance initially, but with encouragement and calm guidance, he happily takes your lead and settles in nicely. Some consistent, short outings will see his confidence bloom. He’s a sensitive soul who really wants to please. He’s currently crate training and doing really well, using his crate as a calm, safe place to rest and decompress while everyone has some quiet time.
At home, Buddy enjoys pottering around the yard, relaxing with his dog friends, and spending evenings inside with the family, usually stretched out on the rug in front of the TV. He’s affectionate without being demanding, gentle without being timid, and incredibly easy to love. He loves his toys and chewing on a deer antler.
Buddy would suit a home that understands sensitive dogs and can offer routine, reassurance, secure fencing, and plenty of companionship, both human and canine. He hasn't met cats yet, so if you have cats you need to be experienced and able to introduce them safely and slowly, and provide ongoing training. We don't recommend Buddy be rehomed with cats that stray/are allowed to roam outside.
If you’re looking for a friendly companion with lovely manners, a sweet temperament, and a huge heart, Buddy might just be the missing piece your family has been waiting for!
Medical notes
Buddy is currently on 30mg fluoxetine daily to help him ease through the transitions between being staved and dumped, then impounded, moved to foster carers and eventually moved to an adopting home. These are both very affordable medication commonly prescribed for dogs with his history and temperament.
The intention is he be adopted while medicated, with this treatment continuing by the adopter until he has settled in and the adopter and their vet think he can be weaned off. We will send him off with a few weeks' supply and the vet history so you can ask your clinic for repeat scripts.
