Shirley’s story begins on the streets, where she had to fend for herself and survive without the safety or comfort every cat deserves. When she first came into our care, she was understandably very scared—but behind those worried eyes is a gentle, loving soul just waiting for her chance to shine.
Day by day, Shirley is making quiet progress. She’s slowly learning that she’s safe now, and with that comes little glimpses of the sweetheart she truly is. Each small step forward is a big victory for this brave girl, and it’s clear she wants to trust—she just needs the right person to help her get there.
Shirley can be quite nervous when meeting new people and finds new environments overwhelming, so her future home will need to be a calm and understanding one. A quiet household with a steady routine will help her feel secure, along with someone who is patient and willing to let her settle in at her own pace.
She may not be the kind of cat who rushes up for attention right away, but for the right person, watching her slowly come out of her shell and build trust will be incredibly rewarding. Beneath that timid exterior is a beautiful soul, just waiting for a kind and patient human to show her what love truly feels like.

Adoption details
Simply note the ID number and the cats name and visit our hostel at 200 Elder Street in Greensborough. Alternatively you can call the hostel on 8457 6500. We are currently open Mon-Fri 10am-4pm / Sat-Sun 10am-3pm.
You should bring proof of your current address and preferably photo identification such as your driving license. You can only adopt a cat for yourself we do not allow animals to leave with third parties. If you are wishing to adopt a cat as a present for someone, bring them with you as cats are individuals and bond with different people in different ways, the cat you may choose, may not choose your friend! It is also important to allocate time for adoption and we recommend you allow at least a couple of hours to get to know the cat and do the necessary paperwork.
When you visit you will get to meet the cat and as this is a very important decision for both you and the cat you choose we will want to ensure the two of you are compatible and that you understand what will be involved in taking the cat into your home.
We will want to be satisfied that you are prepared to be a responsible pet owner. Responsible pet owners at the most basic level, have their pets registered, micro-chipped and de-sexed unless they are registered breeders. They also understand the issues involved in being able to properly care and take responsibility for the welfare of their pets. Most Councils in Victoria have limits on the numbers of cats you may own without a permit. It is important to check with your Council if you already own the limit and obtain a permit for the extra cat before adoption. We will require to see your permit.
We will answer any questions you have regarding cat care and help you to obtain any support you may need.
