Shaq

Shaq is a gorgeous little Mini Dachshund with a silky coat, big soulful eyes, and legs so short they look like they were accidentally set to “fun size” in the factory. He’s long — gloriously, unapologetically long — and he uses every centimetre of that length to wiggle his way into your heart and under your blanket. He’s a sweet, affectionate boy who adores his humans, whether he’s trotting behind them on his tiny legs, curling up under the doona (yes, under), or doing surprise zoomies that look like a furry sausage rolling at high speed.
Shaq loves fetching his beloved teddy, Moomoo, and proudly parading it around like he’s won a national title. He’s a big fan of cuddles and will happily plant himself in your lap like a warm, elongated paperweight. Walks around the neighbourhood, café lounging, and sniffing every scent ever created are high on his list of joys. He doesn’t care much for toys, but the few he does like, he cherishes with great enthusiasm.
Shaq can be initially a little shy when meeting new people, but once he decides you’re safe, he’ll wander over with his floppy ears bouncing and politely request pats. He hasn’t had much exposure to large crowds, but one‑on‑one or small groups are his comfort zone. When he loves you, he really loves you — expect cuddles, smooches, and the occasional gentle jump to remind you he exists.
He walks well on lead, though his nose sometimes takes him on side quests. He’s friendly with other dogs and often wants to trot up and say hello. He’ll sit for treats (especially the good ones) . He rides beautifully in the car and settles quickly, usually curling up like a croissant in the back seat.
Shaq greats other dogs politely, especially with small to medium‑sized friends who match his vibe. He hasn’t met cats, so his feline diplomacy skills remain untested. Birds, however, are a different story — he would very much like to chase them, even if his stumpy legs don’t quite match his ambition.

When left alone, Shaq spends time inside with access to the backyard via the doggy door. He hasn’t been destructive and keeps himself busy with toys and naps.
Shaq is not a fan of loud noises, especially dryers, and he has strong opinions about birds who dare to exist in his line of sight. He also dislikes being left out of the action — his FOMO is real.
He’s not picky and happily eats both dry and wet food. Treats, however, are his true passion, and he will sit with great enthusiasm for them.
Shaq enjoys baths like a small, damp gentleman. He stands patiently while being pampered but prefers to air‑dry rather than face the horrors of a loud dryer. His coat benefits from regular brushing to keep it soft and shiny.
At night, Shaq sleeps on a dog bed beside his foster carers’ bed, snuggled under a blanket with a toy for company. He sleeps through the night from 10pm to 7am without needing toilet breaks and settles quickly once he’s found the perfect curled‑up position.
He loves car rides and travels calmly, usually snoozing or quietly watching the world go by.
Shaq enjoys his daily walks — two a day, around 15–30 minutes each — and he loves picking up the pace, speed‑walking with his tiny legs pumping like he’s in a race only he knows about. He enjoys socialising with other small dogs and has recently discovered the joy of chasing water from the hose, which is now one of his favourite warm‑weather games.
Shaq is toilet trained, with only a few accidents during his initial transition. He uses the doggy door confidently and has mastered the stairs like a short‑legged champion. He jumps on and around the sofa but has never been destructive — no chewed shoes, furniture, or clothing. He loves chilling on the couch with his head in your lap during movie nights. He hasn’t been allowed on the human bed, but he’s perfectly content with his own cosy setup.

Shaq would thrive in a home with a small backyard and humans who have time for regular walks, play, and companionship. He is primarily an inside dog and needs shelter and comfort when outdoors. He would benefit from having another calm small dog as a companion. A home without young children is recommended, with the youngest being 10+, as Dachshunds can be sensitive and may react if startled. Visiting children should be supervised. A cat‑free home is ideal, and a family who appreciates his quirky, cheeky, long‑bodied charm will adore him.

Shaq has had a full dental and clean so he teeth are in great shape

Adoption Criteria
Being a Dacshound we are seeking a home with none to min stairs as this is detrimental to his breed
A home with another little dog would be lovely but if in residence we are seeking a kind well socialized female
A Home where he can be an inside boy and have access to outdoors
A home with children is ok but they must be dog savvy and 10+
