**Before applying, please remember that adopting a puppy into your home is a huge commitment, and very demanding of your time. Puppies require daily exercise, positive and varied socialisation, grooming, training and playtime. When applying, please consider your work hours, holidays, and how busy your personal life is. Puppies will need someone who is home for most of the day with regular focused input, especially in those first six months after adoption **

BREED: Shar Pei x
BREED TRAITS: Shar Pei’s were originally bred to guard, hunt, herd and fight but is now a companion dog. A calm, independent thinker, sometimes aloof he is a good watch dog and guard dog and devoted to his family. Early training is essential to counter his stubborn strong will and socialisation with humans and dogs must begin early. Due to his short nose he is prone to overheating so needs to be an inside dog

ASSETS: Easy going, affectionate, eager to please, friendly, confident, playful and very sweet!

FAVOURITE THINGS: Winnie loves to play with the other dogs in her foster home and loves her toys especially soft ones. She also enjoys playing fetch and tug of war. She is a typical puppy with bursts of energy where she plays for a while then settles down for a snooze before waking up and doing it all over again!  She loves to go for rides in the car and travels really well.

ENDEARING FEATURES: Winnie has a very affectionate nature, loves her cuddles and snores when asleep!

OTHER ANIMALS: Being a young puppy she will get on well with other friendly dogs after gentle, supervised introductions. She is being fostered with a cat but is overly focused at present and wants to chase. She may be able to live with a dog-savvy, confident cat that can stand its ground, again after gentle introduction.

GENERAL INFO: Winnie will need training for pretty much everything being so young. Housetraining is underway but she has yet to master it. Expect accidents while she’s settling into her new home and routine!  She will bark at noises and knows a couple of basic commands already, but she’ll benefit greatly from puppy school and ongoing classes into adulthood where she can mix with other dogs, and this is a commitment we will expect from her new owner.  Winnie is also crate trained.

ESSENTIALS for Winnie: 
 
** a loving home where someone is there for most of the day, essential in the first six months after adoption 
    
** a home where she is treated as part of the family and is allowed to be inside or out as she needs and to sleep inside at night  

** a decent sized, well fenced garden where she can run, play, sniff and explore in safety

** attendance at puppy school and continued training into adulthood for her to learn and grow confidence – essential 

** continued positive, gentle exposure and socialisation

Winnie will have bursts of energy while a pup and we envisage will be medium to high energy as an adult dog. She would love to live with another youngish dog with similar energy to her.

Winnie could live with dog-savvy gentle children over 8 years of age, who will interact with her gently but also know when to give her space.
