My Ideal Home:
• Familiarity and understanding of my breed traits would be highly valued.
• I’ll need daily exercise — walks, park or beach trips, and playtime in the backyard will keep me happy and healthy.
• Ongoing training and guidance with basic manners will help me grow into a well-behaved companion.
• I want to be part of the family indoors — not left outside without interaction.
• Secure fencing (6ft Colorbond or equivalent) is essential to keep me safe.
• I’d love plenty of toys and mental enrichment to keep my busy mind occupied.
• Most importantly, I’m looking for lots of love and attention from my family.
• Socialisation is just as important as training. Taking me to new places, introducing me to all sorts of people, dogs, and other animals will help me grow into a confident, well-adjusted dog.
• Because I can be shy in new situations, a home without little kids who may accidentally startle me would suit me best.
• Training, training, training — it’s essential that I receive consistent guidance in every aspect of my life so I can become the very best companion as I mature.
• Because I may have had a sheltered start and can be shy in new situations, continued socialisation will really help build my confidence. I’m already becoming so much braver at the shelter!
 
Dog Compatibility:
• I LOVE other dogs and come to life when I am around them! I MUST go to a home with another dog as they help boost my confidence. I have also never lived without another dog and can become quite vocal (hello husky in me) when alone without another dog for company!

Cat / small animal:
• I was unsure around cats at the shelter and may become more inquisitive as my confidence grows. If I join a home with a cat, they’ll need to be dog-savvy and introductions must be gradual and well managed.

My Paw-some Perks:
• I’m highly food motivated, which makes training lots of fun and helps me learn quickly.
• I know how to sit & lay down
• I LOVE all other dogs
• I love laying upside down for alllllllll the belly rubs
• I love to play with toys
• I absolutely love attention, cuddles, hugs, kisses and head scratches, and I’m quite partial to snoozing on the couch with my humans once I get to know you.

Training & Support Needs:
• I haven’t had any formal training yet, so I’ll need help with all my basic manners and life skills. The good news is I love food, which will make positive training lots of fun and rewarding for me.
• I’ve only recently started learning to walk on lead at the shelter. I’m improving every day, but I can still be a little slow, erratic or fearful at times. With patience and regular walks, I’ll soon gain confidence and enjoy my daily strolls.
• I’m shy when meeting new people and in unfamiliar environments, and I can be extremely timid when entering buildings or homes. I’ll need a patient family who will allow me indoors, move at my pace, and gently build my confidence through ongoing socialisation.
• I’m not housetrained yet, as I haven’t previously been allowed inside, so I’ll need guidance and consistency to learn.
• I can feel anxious when left alone in the backyard and may become vocal, howling or whining. This is why it is crucial that I go to a home with another doggo.

Please Note: You’ll only be able to meet Alkira if your application is approved. Successful applicants will be invited to the shelter for a meet-and-greet, and any dogs currently in the home must attend as well.
