About Leia
I’m a calm, gentle “big” girl who loves being part of the family. I’ve grown up surrounded by people and other animals, so I’m very social and easy to get along with. I’m great with children of all ages, from babies right through to teenagers.
I’m currently living with a family that has a VERY energetic young dog and a cat. I wrestle and play with the dog and give the cat a few licks (when she lets me). I’m also inquisitive of the chickens in the chook house. When meeting other dogs, I’m very sweet and respectful - I’ll often roll onto my back to say hello before getting up to play, which tends to win everyone over pretty quickly. I really do just want to be friends with everyone.
I’ve got a lovely, relaxed nature but I still have a playful side. I love balls, ropes, toys… you name it! I’ll often bring toys over to you, doing my little excited “chuff” and stomping my feet to let you know it’s time to play. I enjoy outings to the beach or the dog park, where I can meet new friends. I walk well on the lead, travel nicely in the car, and I’m house trained. I’m also quite polite - I’ll sit for my food, I’m gentle when taking treats, and I even know how to shake.
I do snore though. And I snuffle like a piglet when I’m eating!
I’m happy outdoors during the day, laying around in the shade or sun, but must be indoors on my own bed at night. It’s getting colder now and I do feel it. I’m also pretty easygoing and adaptable, and can happily spend some time on my own when needed.
Because I’m on the “heavy” side I’m on a diet and doing really well. The extra weight may be causing some difficulty for me getting up and down off the floor, jumping into the car, and going up stairs. The vet has given me anti-inflammatory meds to help me feel better, and I’m hoping it’s nothing serious. I’d love some short walks and beach visits to get summer body ready!
I should also let you know that I’m not a fan of loud noises like fireworks, and balloons are definitely not my thing.
I’m loyal, affectionate and well-mannered. I’m looking for a home that wants me as a companion, not to leave me outdoors. They need to be gentle, but remember I’m still a strong girl. I’d love a family who will include me in everyday life, take me on adventures, and enjoy lots of companionship together.
My previous owners couldn’t take me to their new home location, so it’s been an adjustment for me. I was a little sad, but I’m feeling so much better now.-
