Sweetheart

Sweetheart is just 1 year old, and right now she is completely shut down in the shelter. She is not coping here. She spends most of her time frozen, withdrawn, and quietly watching the world from a distance. This environment is too much for her, and it is masking who she really is.

We need to be honest: Sweetheart has likely never truly known a safe, loving home. No consistent comfort, no predictable kindness, no feeling of being someone's cat. And it shows. Not in aggression, but in absence, she has retreated inward because that is what has kept her safe so far.

But we do not believe this is her personality. We believe this is her survival response.

Cats like Sweetheart do not do well long-term in shelters. The longer she stays here, the more she shuts down. What she needs is not more time in a cage, she needs out. Into a calm, quiet home where nothing is expected of her at first except safety and space.

A home that understands she may hide. She may not interact. She may not seem like she is "doing" anything at all in the beginning. But that is exactly the point, she finally needs the chance to stop surviving and start living.
