About Slug and Snail
Slug and Snail are a husband-and-wife pair of pugs who are truly a pug lover’s delight. Previously used for breeding, they arrived into care in incredibly rough shape. Since then, they’ve made a beautiful recovery in many ways, including undergoing BOAS (Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome) surgery to help them breathe more comfortably.
While they’ve come a long way, they do still have some ongoing medical needs that will require thoughtful, committed care.
Both Slug and Snail have luxating patellas, which means their kneecaps can slip in and out of place. In their case, due to their age and relatively low activity levels (as well as the recovery involved with surgery), the decision has been made to manage this medically rather than surgically. This means monitoring their mobility, maintaining a healthy weight, providing joint support, and ensuring they don’t overexert themselves.
Snail can sometimes spin when she feels overwhelmed, so she benefits from gentle interruption and reassurance in those moments.
Our ideal home:
These two would suit a more experienced pug home—someone who understands the breed and is comfortable managing their ongoing needs. They would thrive in a calm, loving environment where they can stick to a predictable routine. They adore their food (and snacks!) and will never say no to a comfy bed and a cosy nap spot.
Our energy level:
They don’t require long walks—just a gentle, short trot to stretch their legs. They’re not high-energy dogs and are happiest conserving their energy for cuddles and relaxation.
Our suitability to children:
A quieter home with older, respectful children (or adults only) would suit them best.
Our suitability to other pets:
They currently live in a busy multi-dog household and get along fine with other dogs. That said, their true bond is with each other, and they would absolutely love to be the stars of the show in their forever home.
At their core, Slug and Snail are incredibly sweet, gentle souls who love nothing more than to love and be loved. They find comfort in each other, in their routines, and in the simple pleasures—meals, naps, and quiet companionship.
If you’re a devoted pug lover ready to open your heart to a very special pair, Slug and Snail are waiting for you.

Our foster carer will contact you when we receive your application to arrange a time for you to meet with their foster pet.
We want your adoption through Maggie's to be a good experience so we will occasionally suggest a different cat or dog that may suit your situation better and the needs of the individual pet.
All our pets leave for their new homes on a two week trial. At the end of the trial, we will transfer the microchip into your name and provide you with the pets vet certificates. Once you receive the Certificate of Identification from council, your adoption will be complete.
Please consider, that a Maggie's Pet is a pet for Life, before adopting.
