Bernie

Bernie is one of those cats who makes you work a little for his trust but the moment he gives it to you, you realise just how special he truly is.

When Bernie first arrived with us, the shelter environment felt incredibly overwhelming for him. He's a naturally shy and sensitive boy, and all the noise, movement, and unfamiliar faces made him want to retreat and hide away from the world.

Even through his fear, there was always something gentle about Bernie because once he feels safe, Bernie is an absolute smooch.

He leans into soft pats. He melts into affection. He quietly seeks comfort and reassurance from the people he trusts most. Underneath the timid exterior is a loving, affectionate little soul who so badly wants connection, he just needs time to feel secure enough to show it.

The shelter can keep him safe, warm, and cared for, but it can't give him the calm, predictable home environment he truly needs to flourish. Every day here is stressful for a shy cat, and while Bernie is trying his best, what he really needs now is someone willing to give him a chance outside these walls.

A quiet home. A patient person. Someone who understands that confidence takes time and that love from a shy cat is often the deepest kind of all.

Bernie may not be the cat who marches straight up to greet visitors, but he is the cat who will form an incredibly meaningful bond with the person who gives him the opportunity to feel safe.

Now Bernie just needs someone willing to help him finally leave the scary part of his life behind and discover what it feels like to truly belong.
