About Deacon
🐾 MEET DEACON — the tiny dog with the enormous heart (once you’ve earned it) 💛🐾
Deacon is a 2 year and 5 month old Chihuahua, all 4kg of him, and while he may be small in size… he loves in a very big way.
But Deacon is not an instant dog.
And we want to be very clear about that.
He is a gentle, sensitive little soul who will need time, patience and respectful introductions to settle and build confidence with his new people. Meeting Deacon is not about expecting immediate cuddles or instant connection — it’s about allowing him to choose you in his own time.
And that matters. Because when he does choose you… it is something really special 💛
This is the kind of dog who will become your little shadow.
Follow you from room to room.
Sleep close by with a piece of your clothing for comfort.
Curl up in your lap and look at you like you are his whole world.
But that trust is earned — not rushed.
Deacon came into care through breeder downsizing and loving life with...... cheese, warm laps and little adventures 🧀😌
Once settled, his sweet personality shines.
There are playful bursts of zoomies.
Happy laps around the house.
Toy wrestling.
Excitement when the lead appears.
And a quiet little dog who simply wants to be near his person.
He is mostly a calm, sedate companion, happy with short walks, cuddles, and watching the world from the safety of your side.
He is toilet trained, crate trained, travels beautifully in the car, and can happily be left home without separation anxiety — especially if he has a chew treat to keep him occupied.
He would be very happy as an only dog soaking up all the attention, though he has lived with other dogs and may suit the right companion.
Cats? Respectfully tolerated.
Wet grass? Offensive.
Peanut butter? Absolutely not.
Cheese? Essential. 😂
He would suit a quieter home where adopters understand that shy dogs are not “broken” — they simply need time.
💛 Please note:
Deacon is not suited to applicants looking for a dog who will walk into a meet-and-greet and immediately solicit affection. He may be reserved at first and applicants will need to approach him with patience and respect, allowing his confidence to build naturally.
Because the magic of Deacon is not in a first impression —
it’s in what unfolds after trust.
And when it does?
You will have a bond that feels extraordinary.
✨ DEACON IN A SENTENCE:
A tiny, loyal little shadow who needs time to trust — but once he does, he will love you with his whole heart 💛🐾
If you understand Chihuahuas…
and you understand that the best relationships are sometimes the ones earned slowly…
🐾 Deacon may be your boy. 🐾

Once an adoption enquiry is completed our admin team will assess the application and if successful we will arrange for a meet and greet to be completed. We may also request photos of your yard for consideration of your application. Please note that we will do no more than 3 meet and greets per dog.
Approved applicants will be contacted to arrange a time for a meet & greet via email. You must bring your current dog along to the meeting if you are meeting another dog/puppy, this is to ensure they get along before commencing adoption - proof of your dogs up-to-date vaccination is required before any meet and greet is arranged.
Our adoption fee must be cleared in our bank account before any animal is available for pick up. Please note we bank with ANZ - any other bank may take 48 hours to process the monies.
Paw Prints Canine Rescue has a 10 day trial period – this basically means that if for any reason the adoption does not work out and the dog needs to be returned to us, the adoption fee minus an admin fee (minimum is $250) will be returned to the adoptees via bank transfer within 7 working days.
Please note that if an interstate adoption needs to be returned or regional adoption all transport cost with be paid by the adopter.
Please also note while this can be a very exciting time for everyone, it can also be an overwhelming time for dogs and we ask that you do try and allow your new family member to settle in their new home and adjust
INTERSTATE ADOPTIONS **
Any transport costs are to be paid by the adopting family, however we can assist you in helping with transport to airports etc.
** Please note some of our dogs are not available for interstate adoption - each bio will state if available for adoption - please check before applying.
AFTER THE TRIAL PERIOD
After the 10 day trial period is completed Paw Prints Canine will send out all relevant paperwork for your new furbaby via email including the transfer of microchip form.
This pet has been adopted and found love with its new family.
