About Toby
Toby is the kind of dog who feels everything a little deeply - the busy world can be a lot sometimes - but behind those cautious first impressions is a genuinely lovely young dog learning that life can actually be pretty fun.
At just one year old, this blue heeler boy is already showing all the makings of an incredible companion. He's friendly, clever, playful, and eager to connect once he feels safe. New people can make him a little nervous at first, and shelter life initially had him feeling unsure of himself, but it's been wonderful watching Toby's confidence steadily grow. Outside of his pen, his personality shines much brighter: curious, social, affectionate, and increasingly relaxed as he learns to trust his surroundings.
Toby enjoys the company of other dogs and has shown lovely social skills during introductions. He's keen to interact, playful without being over the top, and reads other dogs well. A confident doggy friend in his future home could help continue building his confidence and show him the ropes of family life.
He walks nicely on lead, already knows "sit" and seems genuinely willing to learn. Toby just needs someone patient enough to help him keep building confidence at his own pace. Gentle handling and positive reinforcement will go a long way with him, once he relaxes, he grows to really enjoy affection and interaction.
As a young heeler, Toby would love a home that enjoys staying active and keeping both mind and body busy. Puzzle toys, walks, training games, and interactive play will all help this smart boy thrive. Previous experience with similar working breeds is preferred but not essential.
Toby isn't looking for perfection, just someone willing to meet him with the patience, kindness, and understanding he deserves. In return, you'll get to watch a sweet, sensitive dog grow into the confident companion he's already trying so hard to become.
