About Fliper
Fliper is a tiny light weight jack russell who ADORES being part of a family, inside the home and as close as possible to his humans. Don't be fooled by his little legs and size, this boy is big on personality, confidence and quirky personality traits! This little pocket rocket is full of bounce and energy and easily jumps to and from couches, laps and beds!
In foster care, Fliper has been living with 2 adults and 2 teenagers - and his four-legged foster. He loves his people fiercely, has a big heart and simply wants to be close to them.
Fliper will follow his humans from room to room, ensuring he stays close. Fliper also likes to chill on the couch with his people, enjoying lap cuddles and tummy rubs. Fliper is excited to greet any person he meets.
Mostly Fliper adores being inside with his humans. When outside, he loves playing with balls and going on walks. He has thrived being part of a family and greets everyone with excitement as they return home from their day at work or school.
He is unfazed by other dogs on his walks and isn't reactive when dogs bark at him
He does however feel a bit uncomfortable if dogs approach him quickly or there are a number of dogs at one time so he’s not suited to dog parks as it makes him nervous
He is currently living with a female dog and did take some time to warm up to her but now enjoys playing and interacting with her.
If rehomed with another dog we are looking for a female dog that is calm but interactive and family would need to be prepared to take it slow for the first few days
Fliper is an excellent walker and enjoys the new smells, sounds and places he gets to experience on his daily walks. He walks with ease on a lead. For a dog with little legs, he can walk far, so an active family would be ideal!
Fliper hasn't shown much interest in learning commands such as "sit" or "on your mat" - which isn't helped by the fact he isn't treat/food focused nor does his stubborn personality (remember those quirks!) care for it. It's not to say he can't sit - he would just prefer not to as there is too much for him to do - and places to be!
Fliper is a velcro doggo, who loves attention, cuddles and affection. He has been in the car, in a dog seat, numerous times and travels well with no car sickness - he just wants to be with his humans! He has done both short and long distance trips in the car. Fliper would need a slow introduction to other dogs so he doesn't get overwhelmed. Fliper feels very bonded to his humans and when first in care, he was unsettled with some whining/ howling but after a few days of care it improved significantly and now is short lived. He is more settled if allowed access inside the house at all times so a doggy door is ideal.
Fliper occasionally barks at people passing the property or an unexpected noise but it isn't excessive - he's just being security!
Fliper has had a couple of baths in foster care - they certainly aren't his favourite thing. He loves being towel dried though! He has two meals a day - a small amount of dry food in the morning (which he snacks at) and a mixture of dry food and chicken/prime roll for dinner.
Fliper is toilet trained but he still can require his humans to take him out for regular toileting breaks as he is worried that he will be left outside and will try to remain inside - which results in toileting accidents happening. Fliper can go overnight without toileting, however in foster care, if he has woken in middle of night, his foster parents have taken him out to the toilet. His forever humans will need to be patient, consistent and provide reassurance around this for him. Fliper likes to sleep with his humans so his new family needs to be happy to have a little furry feet warmer in bed with them. His favorite way to sleep if given the chance, is to snuggle inside the covers at the end of their feet (again another quirk!)
Fliper has been an inside and outside dog and has access to inside while his humans are at school and work. He has demonstrated no destructive behaviors inside or outside. He will need toys and stimulation when left alone. Fliper is a very active pup, with a lot of energy, but at night, he also loves to be on the couch, snuggling next to his humans and having down time.
Fliper need a loving home with someone around quite a bit as he prefers not to be left alone. He will take time to settle into a new home so a patient family is required until this happens. He needs a home where he has a doggy door so he can access inside when his people are out as he doesn’t like being left outside
Fliper would love a female friend who is calm but active. A slow introduction/ settling in period is required until they work each other out.
A family with kids is fine as Fliper loves to play ball, snuggle and hang out with anyone human. Fliper does like to follow his people around so may not be suited to elderly as sometimes he’s right behind you lol. A retired active couple would suit
Fliper needs a secure yard/ no apartment living/ a bit of grass to play ball.
