About Chubb
Meet Chubb - Sweet-Natured, Smart, and So Ready to Belong
Chubb has had a bit of a whirlwind start to life, being passed between homes before coming into care - but through it all, he's remained a gentle, affectionate, eager-to-connect boy. Now he's looking for a person who will finally give him the stability, structure, and love he's been missing.
This handsome chocolate kelpie is energetic, intelligent, and deeply people-oriented. He thrives on daily mental and physical enrichment - think training games, sniffari walks, problem-solving toys, and adventures with his human. He's also a total cuddle bug once he trusts you, leaning in for affection like he's been waiting his whole life for it.
What Chubb is like
- Sweet, affectionate nature
- Active and switched-on, as you'd expect from a kelpie
- Walks beautifully on lead and checks in with his handler
- Responsive and eager to learn - sits reliably, recall is good in shelter environment
- Enjoys walking with other dogs and is social with both males and females
- Not suitable for cats or small animals (too much herding instinct)
- Cuddly, goofy, and loves human connection
Training & Behaviour
Chubb is a classic working-breed brain in a shelter environment - lots of drive, lots of enthusiasm, and sometimes unsure what his "job" is meant to be. He's not aggressive, not dominant, and not reactive; he just occasionally misses social cues because he's busy thinking about movement, play, and herding.
He would absolutely shine with:
- Positive reinforcement training
- Clear structure and routine
- A confident, calm handler
- Activities like flyball, agility, trick training, or scentwork
He's the kind of dog who lights up when someone gives him direction. He wants to work with you, not against you.
Ideal Home
Chubb will suit an active person or family who understands working breeds and enjoys including their dog in daily life. He'd love:
- A home with space to move
- Plenty of enrichment
- Someone who enjoys training
- A dog-savvy household that can give him consistency and affection
He could live with another friendly dog after a meet & greet, but he'd also be perfectly happy as the centre of someone's world.
Chubb is ready for his person - someone who sees past the "passed around" history and recognises the loyal, loving, clever dog waiting to bloom. If you're looking for a companion who will adore you, work with you and cuddle into you at the end of the day, Chubb is your boy.
