Meet Nugget. Perfectly named - his Bulldog head is as big as his heart.

If you're looking for a dog who will be your shadow around the house, make you smile every single day and snore loudly on the couch next to you at TV time, Nugget might just be your dog.

Nugget is a 2-year-old French x American Bulldog cross, around 16kg of solid, people-loving, endlessly enthusiastic companion. His oversized head, signature underbite and permanently mischievous expression make him look like a cartoon villain. His actual personality is the opposite - sweet, gentle and completely devoted to his humans.

He is genuinely sharp and very trainable. He picks things up quickly when given clear, consistent guidance, and has already mastered "sit" and "wait" before meals and outings. With the right owner behind him, he has every potential to be a wonderfully well-mannered companion.

And then someone pulls out a ball. Nugget becomes a completely single-minded missile. His underbite means he can't quite grip a rubber ball properly, so it launches straight out of his mouth like he's a walking ball cannon. It is objectively hilarious, and it means tiring him out is straightforward - find a secure off-lead area and let him go.
He is confident and relaxed with people and, in the right setting, sociable with other dogs too.

Now the honest bit - because the right fit matters more than a fast adoption.

We want to be upfront: Nugget is a lot of dog. He is affectionate, enthusiastic and deeply loving, but he is also strong, full-on and needs an owner who goes in with both eyes open. The families who will get the absolute best out of him are the ones who are prepared for that from day one.

Nugget is very strong on the lead, and pulling is his biggest challenge right now. When he's excited, he needs to be checked back firmly and consistently. He will absolutely get there with the right training approach, but his new owner needs to be clear-eyed going in: the first weeks will require dedicated, daily lead work. Structure from day one is not optional with Nugget - it's the foundation everything else builds on. He will reward every bit of effort you put in.

He also has occasional moments of reactivity with other dogs on lead. It doesn't happen often and the trigger isn't always obvious, so it's worth knowing about and factoring into your daily routine.

Because Nugget loves so hard and craves being the centre of his person's world, we think he is best suited to a home as the only dog. He's not difficult or possessive - he just gives everything to his humans and deserves a home where that love is fully returned without distraction.

Nugget cannot be left alone during the day. He needs company, so a work-from-home setup or someone who can bring him along as a work buddy would be ideal. He’s not suited to a household where he'll be left alone for long stretches.

His underbite gives him some fairly prominent protruding teeth, and when he's locked onto a ball or chase toy he will run through anything in his path. He means absolutely no harm - he's just a powerhouse who doesn't always know his own size. He is not suitable for homes with children.

Nugget's ideal home will have:
- A dedicated person or couple who work from home, or can bring him along - he needs company all day
- Someone committed to structured lead training from day one, ideally with experience handling strong breeds
- No other dogs - he wants to be your one and only
- Definitely no children under 12; and more suitable for a solo owner or couple.
- At least one good exercise session daily, with access to a secure off-lead area for ball time
- Patience for the settling-in period - he will need time and consistency to feel secure and show his best self
- A secure yard

Nugget craves human company, attention and affection. He is not a backyard dog - he wants to be with you every minute of every day. And he gives everything back. Every training session, every quiet evening on the couch, every moment you invest in him. He's a little legend, and he deserves exactly the right home.

Nugget is in foster care in Mayfield, NSW. He is available for local adoption only, so we can provide support if needed during the settle in period. His adoption fee is $800. He is desexed, microchipped, vaccinated and treated for fleas, ticks and worms.
