About Save Whisper
For ten years, Whisper was a ghost. No microchip, no name, and no one to look for her. She lived a decade on the streets in total, terrifying silence – completely deaf, and completely alone.
It's a literal miracle she survived this long. 💫
When she was finally found in a kind stranger's backyard, she was imprisoned by her own fluffy coat: her heavy, painful mats pulled at her skin so hard she couldn't walk without yowling in agony.
We secured her. We shaved her. We named her. But the battle was just beginning. ⚔️
After spending just three weeks with her foster carer, who was diligently feeding and medicating her to help her get healthy enough to be spayed, a patch appeared on Whisper's nose.
The patch was accompanied by a spot.
Our vet's suspicion? Carcinoma.
The next step? A surgery marathon. Immediately.
Whisper had already been through enough, hadn't she?
Apparently not, said the universe.
Three weeks ago, Whisper was shaved down to her skin, severely underweight, and dealing with both persistent diarrhoea and respiratory difficulty.
Now, just as she was starting to improve, she needed life-saving carcinoma removal.
And so, we sprang into action. 🚑
As we have determined her to be a senior girl – at least 10 years old – we didn't want to put her through multiple rounds of anaesthesia.
So, we decided to get her spay sorted at the same time. A one-and-done day of pain, followed by – hopefully – many years of health and happiness.
As we were preparing her for surgery, we noticed her belly was distended.
She wasn't pregnant, though. No – her uterus had filled with fluid.
It was hydrometra: a serious uterine disease that, without treatment, can quickly become life-threatening.
So... good thing we got that unexpected ticking time bomb sorted, hey? 🥲
Next up? An incredibly tricky and time-consuming surgery.
This involved carefully excising her carcinoma, then delicately grafting a piece of skin from beneath her eye back onto her nose.
We aren't sure whether the graft will take. We really hope it does.
In the meantime, our poor girl looks like she's in the running for best Halloween costume several months too early. 😿
And now, we're waiting for the results of her diagnostic imaging and lab testing, to see if the cancer has spread.
Whisper may not be able to hear us, but she can feel the warmth of a soft bed and the relief of a body that no longer hurts.
All we want is for this beautiful, sweet girl to be safe, happy and healthy – and to be able to cover the costs associated with her care.
Whisper's series of surgeries have cost over $2,000 so far, and that number could very well grow as quickly as her carcinoma did.
Please consider donating, no matter how small the amount.
Do it to prove that there are people out there who care about the forgotten, the neglected and the suffering.
Do it for Whisper. 💞

Adoption details
If interested in a cat that is available for adoption, we require you to fill out an adoption application, and one of our lovely foster carers will give you a call to organise a time for a meet and greet.
Please note: As we are all volunteers with limited time up our sleeves, we prefer all interested potential adopters to fill out an application, rather than send an enquiry, as this helps us know more about you and what you are after, and saves us all a lot of time!
Apply here for a cat or kitten: https://form.jotform.com/sugarandspicecatrescue/cat-adoption-questionnaire
If forms aren't for you though, please SMS us (the number is in the link) and we can call to go through the form over the phone.
