About Rolly - 7 Year Old Great Dane X Wolfhound
Meet Rolly! 🐾
Rolly is a 7-year-old Great Dane x Irish Wolfhound with a heart as big as his paws. At first glance, his grey face might make him look like a senior dog, but don’t be fooled - we think that’s more Irish Wolfhound than age! Underneath those whiskers is a goofy, affectionate boy who still enjoys daily bursts of playful energy.
Weighing in as a giant breed, Rolly is a dog who thrives on human companionship and loves being close to his people. Whether he’s standing between your legs for pats, leaning his entire body weight against you for cuddles, or draping himself over you on the couch, personal space is definitely not part of Rolly’s vocabulary.
Rolly enjoys a relaxed lifestyle and is happy to spend much of his day lounging around. However, he does need at least a 30-minute walk each day along with some mental stimulation to keep him content. Without enough activity, he can become restless and find his own ways to entertain himself.
Like many big dogs, Rolly has his moments of excitement. He is known for his pre- and post-dinner zoomies and loves a good game of tug-of-war. When he gets really hyped up, his rough play can be a lot due to his size, so he’ll be best suited to someone confident and experienced with large breeds.
One of Rolly’s favourite and more quirky ways of showing affection is “cobbing” as a way of expressing love and trust.
Rolly is currently working on his training and has shown he’s willing to learn with the right guidance and consistency. We’ve been helping him improve his response to his name.
When it comes to walks, Rolly does best on a front-clip harness. He can become excited and vocal when he sees other dogs, barking and becoming fixated until they’re out of sight. While he has not shown aggression, his reactivity can make walks challenging and will require ongoing management and training.
Rolly also has some important boundaries that his future family will need to respect. His bed is his safe space, and he does not like people reaching into it or touching him while he’s resting there. If his boundaries are ignored, he may growl or show his teeth to communicate that he wants space. He is also sensitive about having his paws handled.
Rolly’s ideal home is one with patient, dog-savvy adopters who understand large breed dogs and are willing to continue building his confidence and training. In return, you’ll get a loyal, affectionate companion who will make you laugh daily with his goofy personality and remind you just how much love can fit inside one very large dog.
If you’re looking for a gentle giant with plenty of character, a love of cuddles, and a heart full of affection, Rolly may be the perfect.
He is in foster care in Islington, NSW. His adoption fee is $300 and he is desexed, vaccinated, treated for fleas and worms, and microchipped.
