About Zorro
my name is "zorro" and i am a beautiful bengal. I was brought to the rspca because i guess my previous human companions weren't 100% prepared for my instinctive bengal "quirks".
bengals are a relatively new breed the bengal is the result of hybridisation between domestic cats and the asian leopard cat. It began accidentally after an alc was purchased from a pet shop and bred with a domestic but soon became a deliberate effort to create a cat with the beautiful "wild" markings of the leopard cat and the affectionate and docile personality of a domestic. Besides random domestics occicats egyptian mau abyssinians bombays and british shorthairs were added to create the breed. It gained official recognition in 1984. The idea was altruistic: jean mill nee sudgen the creator of the breed hoped to put an end to the pet trade in leopard cats by putting a leopard coat on a domestic cat.
caring for a bengal: as an animal not too distantly removed from its true wild ancestors this cat is an adept hunter and great care must be taken to protect our native wildlife from it. They can be a very wilful animal often indulging in activities they know annoys the humans of their family just to get their attention. They are not easily deterred and love to explore so if you want a cat that will stay off your benches forget ever having a bengal! while they are frequently affectionate with humans they can be intolerant and even aggressive with other cats particularly if the bengal was there first. They require full-time attention but can be very rewarding to the right families. An intelligent animal they can be trained to do tricks. Given the amount of work this cat can represent be very very wary of adopting one based on appearance alone or you will find you have bitten off more than you can chew. They can have a predisposition to development of feline infectious peritonitis.
special needs: i am a catchoo cat which means i had the sniffles. But i am all better now and ready to go to my forever home. To stay happy & healthy i will need to be an indoor only cat; and your one & only.
