About Winnie
Introducing Winnie!
Winnie is a Mastiff x born 16th September 2023.
While Winnie is microchipped as a Mastiff, she is approx 29kg and stands between knee & hip height. So although she is a large dog, by Mastiff standards she is on the smaller side.
Winnie was brought into us as a stray, after being found on the side of the road next to a large pile of rubbish. That's right folks, this gorgeous girl was literally thrown out with the trash. The saddest part? She was sitting there for hours.. just waiting. Waiting for her owners to come back. Waiting for them to realise they'd forgotten her. Waiting next to bags of junk that smelled like home. Waiting alone.
When Winnie first arrived at the facility she was a little shy, a little shut down and had an overall sad aura about her. She's slowly started letting her guard down with staff & volunteers and she's showing us her beautiful personality. Winnie is toilet trained, walks well with a balance harness and loves to give you sneaky wet willies (licking in your ear) when you're not paying attention. She's started becoming quite playful and does the cutest play bows inbetween zoomies.
While we're not 100% sure what her home life was previously, we know that Winnie has lived with at least one child (under 15yrs old), so we believe she would be a great family dog.
While up in our exercise yard a staff member picked up a stick to remove it before any of our dogs could munch on it and sweet Winnie ducked, cowered & ran away from our worker. They immediately threw the stick over the fence and knelt down to reassure her. Given this heartbreaking reaction, her new family will need to be patient, loving & gentle with her in the hopes that she can one day forget her past traumas and know she'll always be handled with a kind hand.. the way she always deserved to be treated.
Winnie tested quite well with other dogs. While she started off a little unsure about the whole situation, she quickly dropped into a play bow, ran in to boop the other dogs, then spun on the spot & ran away again. She did occasionally bark in excitement, but was otherwise very friendly. We believe Winnie could be suitable to live with another dog, or to be the spoint only "child" at home. If you have a friendly dog we will need to do a meet & greet with them to ensure they get along before going home.
Winnie was mostly unfazed by cats & pocket pets.. she might have been a little scared of our facility cat, but Polly has that affect on everyone. We believe Winnie could be suitable to live with small animals, if given a slow & controlled introduction to them.
She still has so much to learn about the world and life and would love to be in a home where she is included as a member of the family. Winnie will thrive in an environment that guides her with positive direction and lots of love and attention.
You would think after being discarded the way she was, that she would have separation anxiety or fret when being left, but other than an occasional bark she's shown no signs of separation anxiety since being at the facility.
Winnie has shown no signs of food aggression since being with us and she's very gentle when taking treats/food from your hand.
If you think you could be that furever family for Winnie, please contact our friendly staff via email at ccacfpetadoptions@gmail.com or 0499 900 272 to organise a meet and greet.
Winnie's adoption fee is $475 & includes her desexing, vaccination and lifetime registration. She is also regularly treated for fleas and worms.
Winnie is currently located in East Maitland.

Adoption details
If you are interested in adopting one of our animals, please contact us on 0499 900 272.
Staff will ask more about your lifestyle and the information you provide will helps us to achieve the best match between the dog or cat and their new home. We will also have certain adoption requirements that have to be approved prior to meeting the animal (eg fencing requirements, no young kids, etc)
Once all of your questions have been answered and adoption requirements met and approved, its time to meet your potential new furbaby. This meet will be conducted at the shelter in the Hunter Valley.
Should you have an existing dog in your life, we will require a meet and greet to ensure that they get along.
The final step (pending agreement by both parties) is the payment of the adoption fee and filling in of associated paperwork for your new furbaby.
Congratulations, you have now saved a life!
