It takes a special kind of person to see the potential in a shy soul and Collaroy is looking for exactly that. For some dogs, the world hasn’t always been a big, exciting playground—sometimes, it’s just been a place to be small and quiet. This little female lady is a gentle soul who is looking for a very specific heart to help her realize that the world can be a kind place. Because she has had very little human interaction in her past, she is currently quite scared and overwhelmed. She isn't looking for a high-energy lifestyle; she’s looking for a sanctuary - someone home (WFH would be good) to help her adjust.
She is a "hider" by nature right now. She doesn't yet understand that a hand reaching out is for a pat, or that a voice is calling her for dinner. She is looking for a "quiet-life" expert—someone who is happy to simply exist in the same room as her without demanding she be a "lap dog" on day one.
Patience is Mandatory: Her progress will be measured in millimetres, not miles. One day she might look you in the eye; weeks later, she might sniff your hand. Her new family must celebrate these tiny victories.
Maximum Security: Because she is scared, she is a high flight risk. She needs a very secure yard with no gaps, and a home where everyone is mindful of open doors and gates.
The "No-Go" Zone (The Car): She isn't a fan of the open road and suffers from car sickness. We find however that natural remedies can work for her. For now, her world should remain small and local while she builds her confidence and physical comfort.
Commitment to a Grooming schedule: Collaroy needed to be shaved off completely upon arrival due to severe matting. She currently doesn’t mind combing and scissors but is fearful of the sheers, so your professional groomer will need to give her time to get comfortable on the grooming table.
She is a very clever little one and learns very quickly. In care she learned new things like going out to toilet after meals and to use the doggy-door in only 1-2 days. Lead and harness training however, has been less successful and she will need more time to master this along with sit, stay and come.
Since she is good with other dogs, having a confident resident dog will help her ‘learn how to dog’ and build her confidence. She loves to play with toys and other dogs, especially those of similar size. She may surprise you with her morning zoomies at play time in readiness for breaky.
A Note to Future Adopters:
Choosing this girl isn't about getting a dog to go on hikes or visit cafes. It’s about the profound reward of watching a shut-down spirit slowly begin to bloom. If you have a quiet home and a lot of love that doesn't need to be "repaid" immediately, she might be your perfect match.
