About 🌮 Taco 🌮
Meet Taco 🌮
Small Body, Giant Personality!
Taco is an 18-month-old Chihuahua x Dachshund with a heart far bigger than his tiny frame, and a personality you’ll never forget. This little guy is bursting with intelligence, charm, and loyalty, just waiting for the right person to truly understand him.
Taco is incredibly smart. So much so that he was once on the path to becoming a circus dog! He learns tricks and skills so quickly and loves his training sessions. He thrives on learning and connection, and in the right environment, his potential is endless.
Taco is looking for a home without children. Their fast movements and unpredictability confuse and scare him, and so, he must go to an adult-only home, with no visiting children or grandchildren.
However, once Taco feels safe, his true self shines! He is deeply affectionate and loves nothing more than curling up on the couch, snoozing in a warm bed, and soaking up all the comfort with his favourite people. He forms strong bonds and becomes a loyal “ride or die” companion who will stick by your side through everything. He is a true love bug and just needs to find his perfect match! 😍
Taco is also fantastic with dogs and loves to have a canine bestie. He’d be best suited to an energetic dog who is similar in age. He’d also be fine as an only dog as long as he had enough enrichment to keep his clever mind busy.
Taco’s early life was one of neglect. He was surrendered severely underweight, riddled with worms, and had no basic training. He lived outside in a courtyard 24/7 from puppy phase, and this has understandably impacted how he navigates the world. Because of this:
* He can feel uneasy with closed doors, likely due to past confinement. For example, if he’s on the bed and the door is shut, he may bark for it to be opened! He’s an excellent communicator.
* He needs a patient, understanding adopter who will give him time, structure, and compassion as he continues to adjust.
Taco also has a strong prey drive. He finds chasing cats very fun… but unfortunately, the cats strongly disagree. Because of this, he will need a home with no cats or pocket pets.
The good news? Taco is comfortable being left alone when you go out so will likely suit someone who is away from the home for short periods of the day. He happily waits on the couch or explores the garden, chasing bugs and lizards. He will bark occasionally if he wants to come in.
He is currently on medication to help manage his overall anxiety, and we have found a routine and treatment that works well for him. His new adopter will need to be committed to continuing this care to ensure he stays happy and balanced.
Ongoing Training & Enrichment
Taco would greatly benefit from continued training in his new home. His intelligence is one of his most incredible traits, and giving him an outlet for it will help him thrive. Activities like agility, scent work, or other structured training games would not only engage his sharp mind but also help build his confidence and strengthen his bond with his person. He truly loves having a “job” to do.
Out and About with Taco 🐾
Taco absolutely loves exploring the world and looks forward to his daily walks. He’s curious, engaged, and happiest when he’s out adventuring with his person.
And for an extra special treat? Taco is a big fan of pup cups from McDonald's—the quickest way to win his heart!
Taco’s Ideal Home:
* Adult-only household (no children or visiting grandchildren)
* No cats or small animals
* A patient, committed adopter willing to learn his quirks
* A calm home where he can feel secure and build trust and sleep inside with his family
* Someone willing to continue his anxiety medication and care
* Someone interested in continuing his training and mental enrichment
Important: If for any reason the adoption does not work out, Taco must be returned to us. We are committed to finding his perfect match, no matter how long it takes.
If you’re ready to open your heart to a unique, loving, and unforgettable little dog, Taco might just be your perfect companion.

Adoption details
ADOPTION PROCESS:
1. An Adoption enquiry should be made via
https://form.jotform.com/shellys.place.rescue/adoption-enquiry
2. Once your application has been received, one of our volunteers will contact you for a phone interview. This is to determine whether one of our cats or kittens will be a good fit for your home. We all want long-term success in placing rescue animals, so finding the best fit for the animal AND the family is very important.
3. 'Meet & Greet' with the animal and their carer will then take place if the application is approved.
4. A property check will take place via a video. Once this has been successfully completed, adoption paperwork finalised and the adoption donation processed, the pet can be collected from foster care.
5. A 14 day settling-in period commences once the animal has been collected from foster care.
6. Adoption is finalised after 14 days. Paperwork/records will be included in an adoption pack.
7. All animals will be rehomed desexed, 1st vaccinated, microchipped and treated monthly for fleas and intestinal worms. Once the adoption is finalised, the new owners are responsible for all vaccinations and preventative treatments.
As we are run entirely of volunteers we endeavour to respond to your enquiry as soon as we can. Your patience is greatly appreciated.
PLEASE NOTE: We are unable to hold any animals. Please only apply if you are ready to adopt now.
