Chai

Have you ever heard of a Scottish Short Hair? Yeah ... us neither.

But if you've ever seen Chai, you might believe they exist - because he's giving "Scottish Fold energy," just without the folded ears, the patience, or the willingness to tolerate nonsense. He is, however, 100% cat. Extremely cat. Possibly the most cat we've seen all week.

Chai is a lovely boy. Truly. We need to start there, because everything else about him is... a bit of a reaction to his current life situation. And his current life situation is: the shelter is too much, actually, thanks. Chai does not cope particularly well with the chaos, the noise, the smells, the other cats, the humans walking past, the air moving slightly differently than expected ... you get the idea. It all builds up, and sometimes it spills over into overstimulation.

When that happens, Chai gets a bit sassy. A bit vocal. A bit "excuse me, I did not consent to this emotional experience." He will tell you about it. At length. With feeling. But underneath all of that? There is a genuinely sweet boy trying very hard to keep it together in a world that feels a bit too loud, a bit too fast, and a bit too much.

In a calm, predictable environment, Chai starts to let his guard down. You catch glimpses of him relaxing. You see the softness. The gentleness. The cat who wants to trust that nothing bad is about to happen next. He just needs the right place for that version of him to win.

Chai is also going to need a deeply committed, understanding home. He has some upcoming medical work that will need ongoing care and support, and he will need someone willing to walk that journey with him. The good news? You will not be doing it alone - LDH will be here to support you every step of the way.

He is not a "quick settle" cat. He is a "slow rebuild" cat. A "let's learn how to feel safe again" cat. A "you might cry a little when he finally curls up next to you because you'll realise how long he's been holding everything in" cat.
Chai will need a quiet, adult-only home where things move gently. No chaos. No surprises. No overwhelming environments. Just patience, consistency, and kindness.

And in return?

You get a boy who is trying. A boy who wants to be okay. A boy who, when he finally decides you are safe, will show you just how much love was underneath all that noise the whole time.
Chai isn't difficult.
He's just been coping.
And now he needs someone to help him not have to anymore.
