About Kaia
Hello there! I'm Kaia, and I'm officially accepting applications for my forever family.
APPLICATION PROCESS APPLIES FOR KAIA
PLEASE COMPLETE THE BELOW APPLICATION FORM

My Ideal Home:
• Familiarity and understanding of my breed traits would be highly valued.
• I'll need daily exercise - walks, park or beach trips, and playtime in the backyard will keep me happy and healthy.
• Ongoing training and guidance with basic manners will help me grow into a well-behaved companion.
• I want to be part of the family indoors - not left outside without interaction.
• Secure fencing (6ft Colorbond or equivalent) is essential to keep me safe.
• I'd love plenty of toys and mental enrichment to keep my busy mind occupied.
• A good-quality dry food diet will help support my dental health.
• Regular grooming and brushing will keep me looking and feeling my best.
• Most importantly, I'm looking for lots of love and attention from my family.
• Because I can be shy in new situations, a home without little ones who may accidentally startle me would suit me best.
• Once I'm settled, I can get excited, I can be a little bouncy and mouthy, so any children in the home would need to feel comfortable and confident around an energetic, enthusiastic dog joining the family.
• As an active breed, I have lots of energy, so I'll need an active family who can keep up with me.
• Socialisation is just as important as training. Taking me to new places, introducing me to all sorts of people, dogs, and other animals will help me grow into a confident, well-adjusted dog.
• Training, training, training - it's essential that I receive consistent guidance in every aspect of my life so I can become the very best companion as I mature.
• Because I may have had a sheltered start and can be shy in new situations, continued socialisation will really help build my confidence. I'm already becoming braver at the shelter!
• I'm still only 10 months old, I'm ready to learn and adapt - how I grow and mature will reflect the love, structure, and guidance you provide me.
• As I didn't have experience with other dogs before arriving at the shelter, I can be unsure how to behave around them. I'll need continued positive socialisation to build my confidence.
• At the moment, I need a home with no other dogs. I can be fearful and may snap as a warning if a dog gets too close. However, with calm, positive socialisation, I can rebuild my confidence and learn that other dogs aren't frightening.
• A home without cats or small animals would be best for me, as I'm likely to chase them.
My Paw-some Perks:
• I'm a very playful, happy pup with the cutest little wiggle-butt when I'm excited.
• I absolutely love attention once I know you, cuddles, hugs, kisses and head scratches, and I'm quite partial to snoozing on the couch with my humans.
• I'm exuberant and full of beans, always ready for fun and adventure.
Training:
• I haven't had any formal training yet, so I'll need help with all my basic manners and life skills. The good news is I love food and toys, which will make positive training lots of fun and rewarding for me.
• I've only recently started learning to walk on lead at the shelter. I'm improving every day, but I can still be a little slow, erratic or fearful at times. With patience and regular walks, I'll soon gain confidence and enjoy my daily strolls.
• I can be a little bouncy when excited, but consistent training will help me learn calmer behaviours.
• I can be nervous around other dogs and may react if they're too full-on or reactive towards me. Controlled, positive socialisation experiences will help me build confidence and learn that other dogs aren't so scary.
• I'm shy when meeting new people and in unfamiliar environments, and I can be extremely timid when entering buildings or homes. I'll need a patient family who will allow me indoors, move at my pace, and gently build my confidence through ongoing socialisation.
• I may initially shy away from things going over my head (like a lead), but I warm up quickly and my fun, lively personality soon shines through.
Please Note: You'll only be able to meet Kaia if your application is approved. Successful applicants will be invited to the shelter for a meet-and-greet.
