About Louie (68343)
Louie may be small, but he is not a beginner's dog. This clever little terrier cross is looking for a very specific home with an experienced, confident owner who understands behaviour and is committed to ongoing training. Louie forms a very strong bond with his person and thrives when someone is home most of the time. He is incredibly affectionate and loyal, but he can also become protective and prone to guarding his person, so clear boundaries and consistent handling are essential. He can be wary of unfamiliar people-particularly men-but with time, patience, and the right guidance, he settles and is able to relax and go about his own business. Louie has made great progress in care and is learning to move away from situations instead of reacting, but this will need to be continued in the home. Louie would suit an adult-only home with no children or cats. He may be able to live with a calm, well-matched dog, but introductions and interactions will need to be managed carefully. He is not suited to full-time workers, as he can struggle being left alone and prefers the company of his person. The fun stuff-Louie is crate trained, toilet trained, and knows some tricks. He loves his toys and enjoys a game of catch (though he's quite happy keeping the ball for himself!). He's a bright, engaging little dog with a big personality. Louie will not thrive in a typical pet home. He needs someone who can provide structure, patience, and ongoing behavioural support-and in return, he will form an incredibly strong and rewarding bond. If you have experience with behavioural dogs and are ready for the commitment, Louie could be your perfect match.
Medical notes
This animal has been diagnosed, or showing clinical signs of, luxating patella in one or both hind legs. I have been advised that arthritis (also referred to as osteoarthritis of degenerative joint disease) may occur in the future as a result. A number of factors may, however, accelerate this process, including, but not limited to, trauma/injury, dislocation, and an animal being overweight. Surgery may be advisable depending on severity.
