About Dr Robbie
Dr Robbie is settling beautifully into foster care and is officially ready to find his forever people!
For the most part, Robbie is an easy, cruisey housemate. You’ll usually find him curled up on the deck soaking up the sun or snoozing beside the desk indoors—an excellent coworker, though his typing skills are still lacking. He enjoys short, structured walks while he continues polishing up his leash manners, and he’s currently discovering the fine art of fetch and tug.
Robbie is a big fan of enrichment and independent play, especially if it squeaks—squeaky toys are, in his opinion, a superior life form. In the evenings, he loves initiating play with his foster siblings. This can be slightly annoying at times (his words: “enthusiastic”), but he’s always respectful and has gotten along well with every dog he’s met.
When it comes to new people, Robbie prefers to take a moment to assess the situation—he likes to make sure you pass the vibe check. Once he’s comfortable, his playful and affectionate side really shines through. He travels well in the car, is confident exploring new environments, and generally takes life in stride.
Robbie would much prefer an open-plan lifestyle where he can move in and out freely. He’s also incredibly talented at identifying what we’ll call “structural weaknesses” in fencing and this is something his foster team is actively working on alongside his door manners to keep him safe.
Overall, Robbie is a relaxed, playful, slightly cheeky boy with a few goofy quirks—and a lot of love to give.
Ideal Home:
- Robbie would be best suited to a house rather than apartment living.
- A secure yard is a must (and by secure, Robbie would like to remind you he means secure secure).
- He would thrive in a home that offers both indoor and outdoor access, allowing him to move freely and settle wherever he’s most comfortable at any given moment.
- Robbie isn’t showing signs of separation concerns, but he would love a home where someone is around for part of the day—he’s a big fan of setting up under a desk and accepting the occasional head pat as payment.
- He would suit someone happy to continue working on the basics and provide a bit of structure and guidance as he continues to find his feet.
- Robbie is an observant, intelligent dog and an easy, enjoyable, genuinely rewarding companion to live with.
Energy Level:
Robbie doesn’t have your typical working dog “go-go-go” energy.
He’s happy with a couple of short, structured walks each day, plus an evening session of fetch and tug.He enjoys mental enrichment and loves social play with other dogs.
At home, Robbie has a lovely off-switch—he’s more than happy to relax, snooze, and just hang out during the day like a professional nap enthusiast.
When he first arrived, he was understandably a bit overwhelmed and could be frantic, jumpy, and mouthy at times. Since settling into foster care, he’s really started to find his balance and is blossoming into a much more regulated, easy dog to live with.
Overall, Robbie is a great mix of playful and engaged when needed, and calm and chilled the rest of the time.
Suitability to Children:
Robbie is not suited to living with children or in a home with regular young visitors. He thrives in calm, predictable environments and prefers steady, consistent interactions from his people.
For this reason, Robbie would do best in an adult-only home with minimal exposure to children, where he can continue to feel safe and settled.
Suitability to cats or dogs:
Robbie is currently in foster with a variety of dogs and has gotten along well with all of them. He enjoys social interaction and would ideally suit a home with a dog who is happy to engage and play, rather than a neutral or uninterested companion.
His play style is delicate but persistent, so a dog who can match his energy or provide appropriate feedback would be a great fit.
Robbie could also live as an only dog, provided he continues to get appropriate outlets and dog interaction outside the home.
Robbie has been tested with cats—he showed a strong interest in eating the cat food (not the cat 😆). He appeared a little unsure during the interaction, so with slow introductions and some confidence building, it’s possible he could learn to live with cats.

We want your adoption through Maggie's to be a good experience so we will occasionally suggest a different cat or dog that may suit your situation better and the needs of the individual pet.
All our pets leave for their new homes on a two week trial. At the end of the trial, we will transfer the microchip into your name and provide you with the pets vet certificates. Once you receive the Certificate of Identification from council, your adoption will be complete.
