About Bessie
Meet Bessie đ
Bessie is a cute, scruffy terrier mix with a gentle soul and a love for the quieter things in life. Sheâs a calm little companion who enjoys snoozing for most of the day, but donât be fooledâshe lights up when itâs time for a walk, or even better⊠dinner! Bessie is extremely food motivated, which makes her a great candidate for ongoing training and enrichment.
When Bessie first came into care, she was a little overweight, but with a balanced diet and regular exercise, sheâs now looking and feeling like a whole new dog. Sheâs also quite independent and is comfortable spending time on her own, happily relaxing at home a couple of days a week while her foster carer is at work.
My ideal home đĄ
Bessie would love a quiet, adult-only home where she can truly relax and feel safe. Sheâs the perfect match for someone who enjoys a peaceful household and wants a loyal couch companionâshe absolutely adores curling up beside you while you watch TV.
She thrives in a calm environment with a predictable routine and would do best as the only dog in the home. Alternatively, she may suit a home with a very low-key, calm male dog who will respect her space.
Bessie does display some resource guarding behaviours around âherâ bed. This is manageable behaviour, and our team will ensure adopters are well supported with guidance and strategies to set everyone up for success.
She also prefers a cooler environment, so air conditioning would be a big bonus for this little lady!
My energy level âĄ
Low energy overall, with bursts of excitement for her two daily walks.
My suitability to children đ¶
Best suited to an adult-only home.
My suitability to other pets đŸ
Bessie currently lives with another dog and they mostly coexist peacefully, each doing their own thing. However, she would likely be happiest as the only dog, or possibly with a calm, low-key male dog.
If youâre looking for a low-maintenance, affectionate companion who will happily share your couch and your daily routine, Bessie might just be your perfect match đ
Medical notes
Bessie under went surgery to remove a mammary tubular carcinoma, grade 1. The mass was fully exorcised but her new family will need to keep an eye on any lumps and bumps that may develop and have them checked by their veterinarian.

Please use these links rather than the 'Enquire' button on the pet's PetRescue profile to streamline your enquiry.
Our foster carer will contact you when we receive your application to arrange a time for you to meet with their foster pet.
We want your adoption through Maggie's to be a good experience so we will occasionally suggest a different cat or dog that may suit your situation better and the needs of the individual pet.
All our pets leave for their new homes on a two-week trial. At the end of the trial, we will transfer the microchip into your name and provide you with the pets vet certificates. Once you receive the Certificate of Identification from council, your adoption will be complete.
Please consider, that a Maggie's Pet is a pet for Life, before adopting.
