Beautiful Jett is a young man with a heart full of love and a gentle soul just waiting to be discovered.
Right now, Jett is an incredibly shy boy — a true scaredy cat who finds the world a pretty overwhelming place. Even the television can give him a fright! Behind all that fear, though, is the sweetest soul, and we know that with time, patience and the right person, something very special is waiting to blossom.
Jett needs a very quiet, calm and predictable home where life follows a familiar routine and each day feels safe and reassuring. He isn't suited to a busy household and needs to be the only pet, with no children, dogs or other cats in his new home.
The hustle and bustle of the shelter is simply too much for this sensitive boy, so Jett is currently staying in a foster home where he can feel safe and comfortable away from all the noise and activity.
Winning Jett's trust won't happen overnight. His person will need to be patient, gentle and willing to let him move forward at his own pace. But he is so worth the time and effort. Every tiny milestone will mean the world — and earning the love of a cat like Jett is something incredibly special.
There is a beautiful soul hiding beneath Jett's frightened exterior. He just needs someone willing to give him the peaceful little world he needs to finally feel safe enough to let it shine.
From his foster home
Jett is very sweet and gentle but also a very shy boy. He took 3 weeks before coming out of his hiding spot/bed during the day while we were home, another week of timidly approaching us or hiding near us (e.g. he would like to hide under our table when we played board games) and only letting us occasionally pet him. After 4 weeks he finally felt comfortable with us playing with him and petting him consistently. Now after 5 weeks he is comfortable hanging around us all day, but he’s still not a cuddly cat and doesn’t like sitting on our laps, though we think with more time he may.
He is sometimes okay with being picked up for a few seconds, but doesn’t usually like it, but again I think with more time, as he gets more comfortable, he may be okay with being picked up.
He is still a little skittish around loud noises or fast movements (e.g. just standing up too quickly when he’s nearby can scare him).
At first, he was scared of any noises coming from the TV, even at lowest volume, however we have slowly accustomed him to it, and now he enjoys watching CatTV on YouTube and will sometimes even sit and watch our own shows/movies with us.
In the mornings he loves following us around the house as we get ready.
He is very quiet; we’ve only heard him meow a handful of times.
For the first week we had him in a closed room where he had multiple spaces to hide. Then we started leaving the door open, both during the day and at night, and we noticed he started exploring the house at night; toys would move, laundry would fall from the line, etc. We think this second week where he was able to explore the house at night on his own was very helpful in making him feel comfortable. We would recommend trying this, maybe even a little earlier than we did.
He is not a flight risk – He would rather run away from open doors than towards them. The only risks would be him hiding in very tight/hard to reach spots, especially if he could potentially get stuck there.
We love Jett and after 5 weeks feel he is starting to love us back, we’re sure when he finds a good permanent home he will love it too.

He is prone to GI stress in loud and unpredictable environments and should stay on Hills Biome diet for the initial 6 months of settling in.
Adoption details
Simply note the ID number and the cats name and visit our hostel at 200 Elder Street in Greensborough. Alternatively you can call the hostel on 8457 6500. We are currently open Mon-Fri 10am-4pm / Sat-Sun 10am-3pm.
You should bring proof of your current address and preferably photo identification such as your driving license. You can only adopt a cat for yourself we do not allow animals to leave with third parties. If you are wishing to adopt a cat as a present for someone, bring them with you as cats are individuals and bond with different people in different ways, the cat you may choose, may not choose your friend! It is also important to allocate time for adoption and we recommend you allow at least a couple of hours to get to know the cat and do the necessary paperwork.
When you visit you will get to meet the cat and as this is a very important decision for both you and the cat you choose we will want to ensure the two of you are compatible and that you understand what will be involved in taking the cat into your home.
We will want to be satisfied that you are prepared to be a responsible pet owner. Responsible pet owners at the most basic level, have their pets registered, micro-chipped and de-sexed unless they are registered breeders. They also understand the issues involved in being able to properly care and take responsibility for the welfare of their pets. Most Councils in Victoria have limits on the numbers of cats you may own without a permit. It is important to check with your Council if you already own the limit and obtain a permit for the extra cat before adoption. We will require to see your permit.
We will answer any questions you have regarding cat care and help you to obtain any support you may need.
