As you know, little Louis is all kinds of crazy—everything you’d expect from a Chihuahua, but turned up several notches!
That said, he is slowly getting better. Yesterday was actually a really good day, and he didn’t challenge us at all.
Louis definitely forms very individual relationships with different people and, at this stage, seems to have a preference for men over women.
He has also made himself a doggy friend. A young Beagle named Belle. She shares a fence line with Louis and, initially, he absolutely hated her. Every time she approached the fence, Louis would bark, snarl, and do his best to convince her to leave.
Unfortunately for Louis, Belle is so socially enthusiastic that she interpreted all of this as an invitation to play. She responded with play bows, happy antics, and endless flirtation. Even Louis seemed to have a brief “What on earth is wrong with this dog?” moment before eventually succumbing to her charms.
For now, all interactions remain on lead, as Louis can still be quite bossy with her, but their friendship is developing beautifully and has been a delight to watch.
Louis is incredibly intelligent, and I suspect that is both his greatest strength and one of his biggest challenges. He absolutely loves having a job to do and is definitely not suited to life as someone’s little lap dog. He needs opportunities to use that busy brain of his.
He is the kind of dog who is fairly unimpressed by dry food served in a bowl, but present the exact same food in a snuffle mat or a Kong Wobbler and he tackles it with enthusiasm. He loves agility. We have equipment scattered throughout the grounds and bushland, and Louis knows exactly where every piece is. He actively seeks it out and thoroughly enjoys working his way through the obstacles.
Louis is making real progress. Now we just need to find the right person—someone who understands that behind the Chihuahua attitude is an exceptionally clever little dog who wants to work, learn, and be actively involved in life.
We are seeking for Louis some who will commit to his continued job seeking!

Adoption Process
Once you have decided you would like to meet or apply for one of our pets, we email out our Adoption Application. We ask that the Adoption Process be read and if comfortable with how we adopt, complete the application and email it back for processing. This takes approximately 5-7 days. If approved the pet will come for a 6 week trial for cats and 3 week trial for dogs . We believe it takes that long for a pet to settle. If all goes well during the trial and you wish to finalise the adoption we email all vet certificates and change of microchip forms. We believe in matching the right pet with the right home so your application does not guarantee an approval.
