**The reality for cats in North Queensland**

Every year, thousands of cats and kittens in North Queensland are euthanised — not because they aren't worthy of love, but because the system is overwhelmed. Low desexing rates in the community mean unplanned litters arrive faster than shelters and welfare groups can cope with. Shelters are overcrowded, funding is stretched, and for many cats, time simply runs out.

The numbers are sobering: 70% of cats that enter shelters are never reclaimed — and of those, 46% are euthanised. These aren't just statistics. They are cats and kittens exactly like these ones, who simply ran out of time and space.

These kittens are the lucky ones — they made it into care. But their place here means another animal in crisis cannot. Every adoption creates a ripple effect, freeing up the space, time, and resources needed to keep saving lives.

Black cats and kittens are also notoriously the last to be adopted, and we'd love to change that. If you've ever been lucky enough to share your life with a black cat, you'll know — they are endlessly loving, endlessly charming, and undeniably magical.

Every morning, Twiglet is waiting by the door for her first cuddle of the day before breakfast — it's become one of her favourite little rituals. From there, she'll happily spend the rest of the day sunbathing by the window or perched on her cat tower, watching the world go by with quiet curiosity.
Twiglet is a confident, affectionate kitten with bags of charm. She's clever and engaging, always ready for a play session, but just as happy curling up for cuddles once the excitement of the day is done.
Raised in a loving home, she's well socialised with dogs and other pets — making her a confident, adaptable kitten who'll settle in easily anywhere.
