5.5 year old Katie is a beautiful pedigree German Shepherd whose owner passed away unexpectedly. No-one came forward to claim Katie and look after her, so she is now in the pound wondering what happened and where her human has gone.
Katie has lived a secluded lifestyle with her human, not leaving her property much in recent times, she can become overwhelmed in new environments and situations. Katie is looking for an understanding and patient human that will slowly expose her to the outside world.
Katie can be a little timid at times, she enjoys treats and pats and once she feels safe she is very affectionate and loving, she makes an excellent foot warmer. Katie startles easily with loud or unexpected noises and sudden movements, she needs a home where everyone is over the age of 8 who can be calm and give her space when needed.
Katie hasn’t been walked much and has poor muscle tone in her back legs; x-rays have confirmed no hip dysplasia however she will need to build up her muscle gradually with short gentle walks whilst her body adjusts to an active lifestyle.
Katie is a gentle and sensible girl who has lived with an older person; the perks of adopting a slightly older dog are that you don’t have to deal with the craziness and training of basic manners and etiquette in the home. Katie has always been an indoor dog, she is hoping for a home where she can spend the day snoozing in her bed, keeping her human company. When other dogs aren’t around, Katie walks fairly well on lead, with a refresher of her leash manners and regular walks she will enjoy going for a stroll at an easy pace, sniffing all life has to offer.
Katie has lived with another dog recently, meeting them when they were a young pup, however she hasn’t had any exposure to other dogs besides this. Katie has shown during our assessments that she doesn’t want to be around other dogs and gets quite upset whenever they are around, barking and growling. Katie needs to be the only dog in her new home and will need to avoid other dogs when out and about. Walks in quieter areas at less busy times of days will help her to keep calm.
Katie has not been tested with cats, small pets or livestock.
This beautiful girl has been very loved, but she has lived a very secluded life. Now that her owner has passed, she faces the challenge of starting again and finding her place in this overwhelming world. Katie has so much love to give to someone special, she will make a wonderful companion for someone wanting an easy-going, low energy dog that just wants to be with her humans. We know that there is someone out there who needs Katie just as much as she needs them.

Adoption details
We offer a 'Foster to Adopt' program. This means that the dog will go to live with their adoptive family for 4 weeks to ensure it is the perfect match for both the dog and new family. After the 4 weeks is complete, if all has gone well, the adoption is formalised and your new doggy companion is officially yours!
If you are interested in adopting from us, we ask that you fill out the Adoption Application form on our website (via the link provided below) with as much detail as possible, including the name of the dog you are interested in.
We do not rehome female dogs to a home where there is an existing female dog. Whilst there are always exceptions, it is generally unwise to have two females together; two males can sort it out, a male and a female can sort it out, but when two females fight, the results can be disastrous. For this reason, following the advice from numerous Veterinary behaviourists, as well as our own experience from the last eight years, we do not rehome females into homes with other female dogs.
All of our dogs are de-sexed, vaccinated, microchipped, flea and worm treated
