At a "tiny" 42kg, Barney is really just a massive baby wrapped up in a Dogue de Bordeaux body. Beneath that big, sturdy frame is the softest, most sensitive soul. The world can feel like a big, overwhelming place for him, so he's searching for a calm, quiet home where he can truly relax and feel secure.

But oh... when he trusts you, it is the most beautiful thing. With his special person beside him, Barney slowly begins to come out of his shell. You can see him relax, little by little, as his confidence builds and his gentle, goofy nature starts to peek through. And once you're his person? That's when his whole world changes. His face brightens the moment he sees you, his tail starts its happy thumping, and he presses in close like he just can't get near enough. It's the kind of soft, all-in love that only a truly sensitive soul can give.

Barney is a guy who likes to do things on his own terms. He communicates clearly when he needs space, and he really relies on his humans to listen and respect those moments. Because of this, he isn't suited to a home where his boundaries might be pushed or misunderstood. Barney would do best in a home with secondary school-aged children or adults only, as loud environments and unpredictable little humans can make him anxious.

This darling boy does live with generalized anxiety and will need lifelong medication, along with a patient, understanding human who can help him feel safe. In new or unfamiliar situations (like vet visits) Barney can feel quite uncomfortable and unsure. He'll need a calm, supportive person who can advocate for him and help him feel safe as he navigates those moments.

Barney can be around other dogs, but unfamiliar ones aren't really his thing and he prefers to keep his distance, especially around boisterous and energetic dogs. He's a "people first" kind of boy, and would much prefer to be your one and only, with no other dogs in his bubble.

Barney may take a little time to come out of his shell, but he promises that he is worth every second. He's not just looking for a home, he's looking for his person. Someone gentle. Someone patient. Someone who will see past the nerves and into the beautiful, loving heart he carries.
