Maisy is looking for a new home after spending the past two months with a lovely family in Victor Harbor. She was originally brought into the family as a companion for their existing female Maremma hybrid, a gentle-natured girl only five months older than Maisy, and at first the two girls got along really well. As Maisy has matured and grown in confidence, however, it has become clear that she would quite like to call the shots. While there has been no open conflict, the older dog has become increasingly intimidated by Maisy’s bossy behaviour, and the family feel Maisy would be happier either as an only dog or paired with an adult male dog who won’t be worried by her confident personality.
Maisy is a very affectionate girl who genuinely wants to please her people. She is clever, responsive, and really enjoys training sessions and brain games. Chicken is her absolute favourite training reward, and she learns very quickly when treats are involved!
Like many intelligent working breeds, Maisy can sometimes be a little hesitant or unsure if she does not understand what is being asked of her, so she thrives with calm guidance, consistency, and positive reinforcement. The good news is that she responds extremely well to training and has already made lovely progress. Even her barking has reduced to minimal levels with gentle interruption and guidance.
She also walks beautifully on lead and loves being involved in family life.
Maremmas are famous for their loyalty and devotion, and in the right home they make wonderful family dogs — calm, steady companions who take their role of watching over their people very seriously. With space to grow, good guidance, and plenty of positive experiences, Maisy will become a deeply loyal member of the family.
Maisy is available for adoption under ARK’s Deferred Desexing Program, which means her adoption fee includes the cost of desexing when she is old enough, subject to terms and conditions.

Adoption details
Dogs:
(1) The first step is to complete the online adoption application form at https://southerndownsark.com.au/apply-to-adopt/ Please answer all questions and include photos of your yard and fencing.
(2) All applications will be considered by our Adoption Team, following which a "meet and greet" will be offered to the top-ranking applicant.
(3) If the “meet and greet" is successful, the applicant may adopt the dog and take him or her home the same day.
(4) For successful interstate applicants, different arrangements may apply and will be negotiated on a case-by-case basis.
Cats:
