About Ekon
EKON — Clever, Loyal Red Cattle Dog 🐾
Meet Ekon, a very handsome 2-year-old Australian Cattle Dog (red heeler) with the intelligence and loyalty this iconic Australian breed is famous for.
Ekon is a bright, eager-to-please boy who absolutely loves people and enjoys the company of other dogs. He’s very social and would thrive in a home where he has plenty of company — either human or canine.
Check out the videos and you'll see that, like most cattle dogs, Ekon is quick to learn. He already knows how to sit and wait politely, and he walks beautifully on a loose lead about 90% of the time. When he has your attention, he’ll even sit before going through gates or crossing the road. Clever boy.
He’s not a fence jumper — but likes to pop his front paws up on the gate or fence to say hello and collect a pat.
Ekon's also a big fan of fetch, happily returning balls and toys so the game can continue. A morning and afternoon walk or run in the park where he can chase balls and socialise with other dogs would be perfect for him.
Ekon is:

🐾 Very friendly with people and other dogs
He would enjoy being an inside/outside dog, spending time with his family and relaxing nearby. At the moment he often chooses to sleep near the door so he can keep an eye on things, although he’s becoming more relaxed as he settles in.
Ekon has also shown curiosity about the household cat — mostly a desire to play rather than chase — so with sensible introductions he may learn to live happily with a confident cat.
Like many alert cattle dogs, Ekon sometimes joins the neighbourhood “dog chorus,” although he has already settled a great deal in care and continues to improve as he learns the household routine.
And as you’ll notice from his photos, Ekon has a slightly quirky ear that doesn’t always sit quite the way nature intended. It simply adds to his charm and individuality and makes this handsome boy even more memorable.
Before adoption, Ekon will have three fractured teeth extracted. Importantly, he does not suffer from dental disease, and once those teeth are removed he is expected to have a healthy mouth going forward.
Overall, Ekon is a lovely, intelligent and affectionate young dog who will make a loyal companion for an active household that enjoys walks, playtime and having a very clever dog by their side.

Adoption details
Dogs:
(1) The first step is to complete the online adoption application form at https://southerndownsark.com.au/apply-to-adopt/ Please answer all questions and include photos of your yard and fencing.
(2) All applications will be considered by our Adoption Team, following which a "meet and greet" will be offered to the top-ranking applicant.
(3) If the “meet and greet" is successful, the applicant may adopt the dog and take him or her home the same day.
(4) For successful interstate applicants, different arrangements may apply and will be negotiated on a case-by-case basis.
Cats:
