Douggie is a sweet, gentle, and very affectionate boy who is sure to win hearts. He can feel a little unsure when meeting new people or exploring new environments, so having someone home for the first few days to a week will help him settle in comfortably and start building strong, trusting bonds with his new family. Once he feels safe and relaxed, Douggie's fun side shines through-he can be quite active and enjoys playtime with a puppy-like enthusiasm. He would benefit from continued training around four paws on the floor, impulse control, and brain games to help channel his energy in positive ways.
Douggie would love to be an indoor companion and truly thrives when he can be part of the family, joining in on everyday activities around the home. He does best when he can spend lots of time with his people and would benefit from daily enrichment to keep his clever mind engaged and happy. Douggie was previously returned to the shelter due to reported dog reactivity and possible car chasing; however, he has not shown these behaviours while in care. It's important for his new adopters to be aware of this history and take a proactive, positive approach to training, including skills like "find it," emergency U-turns, and calm, confident behaviour around cars.
Douggie has been friendly and confident when interacting with other dogs and has previously lived successfully with a female dog, although she was quite dominant over him. He is a smart boy who already knows how to sit and would absolutely love a family who is keen to continue his training and help him grow into the best version of himself.
