About Powder
Hello. My name is Powder.
There is one important thing to know about me right from the start. I am deaf. I experience the world a little differently because I cannot hear sounds or the cues other dogs give each other. Sometimes that means I miss the signals older dogs use to tell a puppy to slow down. It is not bad behaviour. I simply do not hear them. Apart from that, I am a healthy, happy puppy with no other medical concerns.
I live with other dogs, and I play very well with them, big and small. I enjoy running around the yard with them, chasing toys, and seeing who can find the most interesting stick. I have not been tested with cats yet, and I have not really met other animals, such as chickens or livestock.
Most of my days are spent outside exploring the yard with the other dogs. I also sleep outside on the deck or around the yard. From time to time, I wander inside for a cuddle and a bit of attention before heading back out to play again. I can be left alone for up to six hours during the day without any trouble.
People are wonderful. I am confident around strangers and not bothered by new faces. I often wander over to say hello, then head out to explore my surroundings. There are always new things to investigate.
Because I am still a puppy, I do have those bursts of energy where I want to play and zoom around the yard. After that, I am usually quite happy to curl up and sleep for a while before the next adventure begins.
I enjoy toys that I can carry around or chase. Soft toys are great. Sticks are even better. Plastic bottles are also a favourite because they roll across the ground in unpredictable ways and bounce about when I bat them, which makes them very fun to chase.
Training has started for me, and I am learning quickly. I am very food-motivated, which makes learning new things easier. I am learning hand signals for sitting and being a good girl. Walking on a lead is still something I am figuring out, and I am learning to feel confident with it.
I am mostly an outside puppy, so I am still learning about toileting when I come indoors. With routine and patience, I will continue to improve.
Children are fine for me, but because I am still a puppy, I can jump up or play bite when I get excited. Because of this, it is important that little ones are supervised while I am still learning my manners.
At the vet, I have no problems at all. I am an active and confident little pup who takes everything in stride. I am also fairly quiet for a puppy. I spend more time playing than barking.
Secure fencing is recommended to keep me safe while I explore and play.
There are no behavioural concerns with me apart from sometimes missing the cues from older dogs because I cannot hear them. Otherwise, I am simply a playful young puppy learning about the world.
At the moment, I am eating SavourLife dry food along with pet mince and chicken frames. I handle food changes very well and do not get an upset tummy.
I would be perfectly happy living with other dogs or as an only pet, as long as I receive plenty of attention and guidance while I grow.
I am Powder. A curious, deaf, confident little girl who is ready to learn, play, and become a wonderful companion for the right family.
Medical notes
Powder is deaf, which means she cannot hear sounds or verbal cues. This does not affect her overall health and she lives a happy, active life. She learns through visual signals and hand gestures rather than voice commands. She is already responding well to basic hand signals for training. There are no other medical conditions and she does not require any medication. Management simply involves using visual cues and ensuring she is kept in a secure environment for her safety.
