About Sophie
Introducing Sophie!
Sophie is a Staffy x born 3rd January 2020.
Sophie was brought into the facility as an unmicrochipped stray with her brother Boy. Both Sophie and Boy were in awful condition when they came to us, both being very underweight, covered in fleas and clearly used for breeding. Sophie, in particular, urgently required surgery after vets discovered she was on the verge of developing a life-threatening uterine infection. Without intervention, she may not have survived. Thankfully, she received the care she so desperately needed. These two have spent their entire six years simply surviving.
And yet… they remained gentle.
Today, Sophie (12kg on arrival now 14kg) is desexed, vaccinated, microchipped, and slowly gaining weight. Her body is healing.. and so is her heart. Since being with us Sophie has been an incredibly affectionate girl, who climbs in your lap as soon as you sit down. While she's not overly excited about toys, she'd be happy simply being able to exist with & be loved by her new humans.
Our original plan was to rehome Sophie with her gorgeous brother Boy, as they've spent their entire lives together & were still incredibly bonded, however we had to keep them separated for almost 2 weeks while Sophie healed from emergency surgery and when we put them back together again (although they were overjoyed to see eachother) we found that they were more excited to have one on one love with their human companions.
Sophie tested really well with other dogs. She was excited and happy to meet both male & female dogs. We believe Sophie would be suitable to live with another dog, or be a spoilt "only child". If you have a friendly dog at home we will need to do a meet & greet with them to ensure they get along before going home.
Sophie was unfazed by cats & pocket pets. We believe Sophie could be sutiable to live with small animals if given a slow & controlled introduction to them.
Sophie has shown no signs of separation anxiety or food aggression since being at the facility.
It’s heartbreaking, in a way, to watch them experience soft beds, full bowls, and kind hands as though it’s all brand new. They don’t ask for much — just closeness, comfort, and reassurance.
They have never truly had a family of their own.

Adoption details
If you are interested in adopting one of our animals, please contact us on 0499 900 272.
Staff will ask more about your lifestyle and the information you provide will helps us to achieve the best match between the dog or cat and their new home. We will also have certain adoption requirements that have to be approved prior to meeting the animal (eg fencing requirements, no young kids, etc)
Once all of your questions have been answered and adoption requirements met and approved, its time to meet your potential new furbaby. This meet will be conducted at the shelter in the Hunter Valley.
Should you have an existing dog in your life, we will require a meet and greet to ensure that they get along.
The final step (pending agreement by both parties) is the payment of the adoption fee and filling in of associated paperwork for your new furbaby.
Congratulations, you have now saved a life!
