About Bonnie
Meet Bonnie – a thoughtful Maremma looking for her person
Bonnie is a beautiful young Maremma with a sweet nature and a gentle, thoughtful personality. Like many Maremmas, she prefers to take a little time getting to know new people and places, so she will need a calm and patient home that understands the breed and is happy to let her settle in at her own pace.
Bonnie grew up in a family home with children, a cat and another dog, so she is familiar with family life and enjoys companionship. She can be a little cautious at first and may retreat to her safe space if something feels unfamiliar. Loud noises can startle her, but with kindness and reassurance she is learning that the world is a safe place. After a couple of months in foster care she is already beginning to come out of her shell.
Once Bonnie decides you are “her person,” she becomes a very affectionate girl. She loves tummy rubs and ear scratches and will happily roll over to ask for more once she feels comfortable with you.
When outside she enjoys shadowing her human, exploring her space and following interesting scent trails. Bonnie is energetic and athletic, so very secure fencing is essential. Like many young Maremmas she can be something of an escape artist until she forms a strong bond with her new family.
She walks on lead but can pull unless wearing a halti, and she is currently learning to be more comfortable with paw handling. Bonnie allows brushing and enjoys gentle grooming.
Bonnie is not livestock guardian trained, and anything that enters her space – chooks, lizards or magpies – may be chased. She does, however, get along well with cats. She is also not much of a barker and is generally quiet during the day.
Bonnie currently lives outside but was previously house-trained and loves being inside with her people, so her ideal home would welcome her indoors as part of the family.
Bonnie will thrive in a patient, understanding home that can give her the time she needs to feel safe. In return, she offers a very sweet temperament and the deep loyalty that Maremmas are famous for.
