Pixie is a beautiful young Wolfhound mix with a big heart and big personality to match.

She is affectionate, loyal and people-focused, with that lovely soft Wolfhound expression and a rough, scruffy red coat. She loves her people and enjoys being part of whatever is happening around her.

Pixie is, however, very much a teenager. She is young, boisterous, energetic and still learning how to manage herself in a big, strong body. She needs a home that understands large-breed adolescents and is prepared to provide exercise, structure, company and stimulation.

When Pixie is bored, she can be destructive, so she is not suited to a home where she will be left alone for long stretches with nothing to do. She will thrive with people who can give her daily exercise, training, enrichment and clear boundaries.

Pixie is house-trained and has good basic obedience. Her foster mum has worked hard with her and has almost got her out of the habit of jumping up, but this is not yet iron-clad. For this reason, and because of her size and enthusiasm, she is not suited to young children.

On lead, Pixie is generally good until something exciting catches her attention. Continued training will help her mature into the lovely companion she has every potential to become.

Pixie is good with larger dogs and enjoys their company, but she is not suitable to live with little dogs. She is simply too big and too chasey for them. She likes to encourage smaller dogs to run so she can chase them, which is not safe or fair for little companions.

Cats would need careful consideration and very slow, sensible introductions, but a cat-free home may be the easier option given Pixie’s size, enthusiasm and chasey play style.

Pixie will need exceptionally secure fencing. She can jump and climb, and has been able to get over a five-foot fence. Her new home must have fencing suitable for a large, athletic young dog, with no easy climbing points.

Pixie also does not cope with being crated. She becomes very distressed in a crate, most likely due to a previous bad experience. She is, however, happy to be safely enclosed in a bathroom or similar secure space when needed.

Her Ideal Home

Pixie is looking for a home with large-breed experience, secure fencing, and people who have the time and patience to guide a big teenage pup into adulthood.

She would love an active home where she is included as part of the family, given regular exercise, and not left to become bored or lonely. She would suit a home with older children or adults, and may enjoy the company of a compatible larger dog.

Pixie is not the right dog for every home, but in the right home she will be a wonderful companion — affectionate, loyal, funny, exuberant and full of potential.
