About Peanut
Peanut is a male companion bird available for adoption in Heddon Greta (Hunter Region, NSW).
If you’re drawn to animals with strong personalities and close bonds, Peanut brings a surprising amount of character into a small, feathered package. This companion bird is curious, cheeky and wonderfully expressive — the kind of presence that quickly becomes part of your daily rhythm.
He’s not a background pet. Peanut enjoys interaction, follows what’s happening around him, and likes to stay connected to his person throughout the day.
A little about Peanut:
🐾 Loyal and strongly bonded to his favourite person
🐾 Curious and active — loves investigating new things
🐾 Best suited to an adult-only household
🐾 Happiest with a guardian who is home often
🐾 Favourite things: mung beans, baths and presenting twist ties
Peanut’s days follow a steady, familiar rhythm. Around 7:30am he’s ready for breakfast, followed by a check-in with his favourite human — often joining in as the morning routine begins.
Through the day, he enjoys being involved. He may follow along from room to room, pause to investigate something new, or settle nearby to observe. He’s naturally curious and will happily explore new objects or spaces, often with a confident little strut.
He also has a playful, expressive side. Mirrors are a favourite, and you may hear soft cooing as he chats away to his reflection. He’s known for his small but charming gestures too — especially presenting twist ties as thoughtful “gifts” for your nest.
With his person, Peanut forms a strong and loyal bond. When he feels comfortable, he shows affection in his own way — turning his back for gentle pats, waiting nearby for you to return, or simply staying close and connected. His companionship feels intentional and consistent.
Around unfamiliar people, Peanut prefers to observe from a distance at first and can be clear about his space. With time, patience and calm interaction, his confidence grows and his affectionate side comes through.
Peanut is best suited to a calm, adult-only household where he can build a close, one-on-one connection. He thrives with consistency, routine and a guardian who is home often enough to provide regular interaction.
He has previously lived as a companion bird and is most comfortable as the only pet in the home. However, with thoughtful, gradual introductions, he may also do well transitioning to a hobby aviary environment. As he hasn’t been around other pigeons since he was very young, this would need to be approached slowly — but he may enjoy the company of a compatible mate over time.
Peanut benefits from predictable routines and patient handling. He’s also a selective eater, preferring smaller dry foods like crushed banana chips and maintenance pellets — with mung beans always a favourite.
Life with Peanut feels interactive and quietly engaging.
Mornings might begin with him following along as you start your day. Afternoons can include curious exploration, soft chatter and small moments of connection. By early evening, he’ll confidently signal that it’s time to wind down and head to his cage to roost.
He’ll suit a guardian who enjoys a close bond with their animal and appreciates a companion with personality, preferences and a strong sense of connection.

Adoption details
When enquiring about a pet listed with Home2Home, your enquiry goes directly to the pet’s guardian—the person who knows them best!
From here, the guardian will be in touch to learn more about you and chat with you about their pet. It’s a great opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have about the pet, including its likes and dislikes, needs, and how it may fit into your lifestyle and family.
If your home and lifestyle match the pet's needs, the next step will be arranging a meet-and-greet to make sure everyone is happy to proceed with a formal adoption.
Following the adoption, change of ownership paperwork will be completed, and proof of vaccination, microchipping, and desexing (if applicable, as indicated on the listing) will be provided.
All pets adopted through Home2Home will require an adoption contract to be signed and an adoption fee to be paid. The pet’s guardian will complete the adoption contract with you and provide a link to PetRescue’s secure payment portal for completing the adoption fee payment.
Home2Home currently operates a ‘pay what you choose’ system for cat adoption fees. This means that adopters will be able to choose an adoption fee amount that is suitable for them. All adoption fees are used to support PetRescue's life-saving programs, including Home2Home.
