About Tommy
Tommy may be an adult greyhound in form, but don’t let that fool you, he’s no couch potato! This gorgeous guy is a ready-made adventure buddy, who loves his 45 minute walks, enjoys a paddle on warm days, and lives for play time - he has the bouncy exuberance of a puppy and can be mouthy and boisterous in his roughhousing, so an equally matched energetic canine playmate is a must for this sweet bouncy bean. Because of his high-octane antics, we wouldn’t recommend that Tommy have close contact with small dogs.
At 37kgs and with zero self control when the zoomies hit, Tommy would be best in a home with a yard and no small children or frail adults that he may accidentally knock over. Although he’s still learning his own size, he is deep down a big lover, and a very gentle soul at home; he has no problems sharing treats, toys, and resting spaces, and when his greyhound foster sister helps herself to his breakfast he will simply stand patiently behind her waiting for her to finish.
Tommy has been showing off in foster care, in just a few short weeks this smarty pants has mastered stairs and getting into the car along with cues “bed”, “wait”, “touch”, “inside”, and “outside” - his recall is even pretty good! He walks very well on lead, but can become excited if he sees too many other dogs that he could be playing with (he is non-reactive, but he will freeze and fixate or sometimes pull), we will support his new adopters with advice on how to keep working on those neutral skills when out and about so that Mr Social learns he doesn’t need to greet every other canine in the world.
A confident lad who is unbothered by loud noises or new environments, Tommy would make a wonderful addition to a home who are looking for a greyhound who can play just as hard as they can rest.

Thinking about adopting?
We’d love to help you find your greyhound match!
To get started, we’ll ask for a bit of information about your home and lifestyle on our application form. This helps us make sure we match you with a dog that suits your household and sets both of you up for success.
Many greyhounds come from racing kennels where they’re used to having other dogs around. Some can struggle being left completely alone, which can lead to signs of separation anxiety like barking or chewing.
Because of this, we usually look to rehome greyhounds into homes where they’ll have company - either human or canine - and not be left alone for more than four hours on a regular basis. If that’s not your setup right now, don’t worry as we’re happy to chat about options such as dog walkers, doggy daycare, or taking your greyhound to work.
Our Adoption Checklist:
To be considered for adoption, we ask that you have:
A secure, fully fenced yard (minimum height around hip height)
A home where the dog is allowed to sleep inside at night
A routine that doesn’t leave the dog home alone regularly for long periods (more than 4 hours) without people or another dog for company
If you’re not sure whether you tick every box, please still apply! We’re happy to have a conversation and see if we have a greyhound who might be the right fit.
Please fill in as much detail as you can as there’s no word limit on any question.
