About Dorian
Dorian is at PETStock 211 Ferrars St, South Melbourne, you can go into the store and meet her and have a pat and chat with the team about adoption!
Dorian was found visiting his foster carer’s backyard in winter 2025, returning regularly for the food left out before eventually being brought into care. Already fully grown and clearly having spent time fending for himself, he initially arrived frightened and defensive. With patience, kindness and consistency – and yes, leather gloves in the very early days – Dorian slowly learned that human hands could mean safety, warmth and full bowls rather than danger. Over the past eight months in the security of his foster carer’s outdoor enclosure, he has transformed into a friendly, affectionate boy who now eagerly greets his person each day.
A large, muscular Domestic Short Hair with mostly grey fur and white patches, Dorian is a handsome, solid lad with a big presence and an even bigger heart. He is active, alert, chatty and people-friendly, with a sweet and snuggly side that shines once he feels safe. He loves gentle pats around his face, long strokes down his back, and especially enjoys having his neck and back brushed. If you squat down to his level, he’ll happily lean in for affection. He often calls out when he wants attention and is always pleased to see his human come home.
Dorian doesn’t love being carried for long periods, though he will tolerate short lifts when needed. While he has not bitten his foster carer, he did swipe defensively when first rescued. He has not done this for over a month, but in a new environment he may need understanding and space while he adjusts. He communicates clearly when he’s “had enough,” and respectful handling will help him continue to thrive. He has been friendly with several new humans introduced to him and was cooperative and social with vet staff during his desexing.
He is selective with other cats and dogs and would suit an adults-only home that understands he may need a gentle settling-in period. Dorian’s ideal home would be a unit with a view or a cat-proofed enclosed verandah where he can safely watch the world go by. With ongoing patience and kindness, he will reward his adopter with loyalty, affection and plenty of conversation. It’s quite obvious that Dorian is ready to be someone’s devoted companion – are you ready to give this big, chatty boy the safe forever home he deserves?
