About Tumpin
When Tumpin first arrived in our care, he kept his distance. He was avoidant of staff, unsure of our intentions, and far more comfortable watching from afar than engaging. It was clear that life hadn't given him many reasons to feel safe around people.
But with time, patience, and a lot of quiet dedication from our team, Tumpin has begun to change.
Through gentle handling, consistent routines, and allowing him to move at his own pace, he has slowly warmed up. He now shows us glimpses of the affectionate, thoughtful cat he has always had the potential to be. The progress he's made is something we're incredibly proud of, and we feel he now has a strong foundation to transition into a home where he can continue growing into the best version of himself.
Tumpin will need a calm environment with understanding adopters who are happy to let trust build naturally. At this stage, he's best suited to a home without little hands, where his boundaries can be respected and his confidence can continue to blossom without pressure.
Cats who didn't get the best start are not "broken." They are simply under-socialised, overlooked, and out of their element in a shelter setting. Through no fault of their own, they were born into circumstances where survival mattered more than cuddles.
Without intervention, many of these cats struggle in traditional adoption environments, not because they can't thrive, but because they need a different pathway to get there.
Our Rescue or Rehome approach recognises that cats like Tumpin need:
- A calmer environment to decompress
- An understanding adopter willing to guide them
- Time, something shelters can't always provide
This program is helping lead the way in creating outcomes for cats who might previously have been passed over, not because they lacked potential, but because they needed someone to believe in it.
Tumpin is part of our Rescue or Rehome program, where we are committed to finding homes for cats and kittens who simply cannot cope in the shelter environment. If you can open your heart and home to Tumpin - or if you're a rescue group able to help - please reach out to us at adoptions@dogshome.com
