About Amber
🐾✨ Meet Amber – Three Legs, Endless Heart ✨🐾
Amber is a 10 month old Fox Terrier (Miniature) x Jack Russell Terrier with the softest eyes and the bravest little spirit you’ll ever meet.
Amber and her brothers didn’t have the best start to life. While she was always sweet and gentle with people — even when nervous — she carried something heavier than most puppies should: a severe leg condition. Vets described her luxating patella as one of the worst they had ever seen. Multiple complex surgeries were discussed, with no guarantee of a good outcome.
After consulting specialists, the kindest, most compassionate decision was made — to give Amber not another surgery… but a pain-free future.
Amber had already spent the first seven months of her life barely using that leg. It never straightened properly, and even under sedation it could not be corrected. So instead of prolonging discomfort, her leg was amputated — and from that moment forward, Amber’s life truly began.
And here’s the beautiful truth:
Amber does not know she is “different.”
She only knows she feels good.
She has healed beautifully. She runs. She wrestles. She zooms. She sunbakes. She climbs onto the couch and her foster mum continually reminders her that she should be using a sensible ramp for getting down, but most times Amber likes to do it her way). She plays tug with her soft toys and follows her little humans everywhere like their tiny, loyal shadow.
Being an amputee is not a handicap.
It’s simply part of her story — and it does not slow her down.
🐶 Training & Home Life
Amber is toilet trained and confidently uses a doggy door. She can go into a crate briefly if needed but finds comfort in being near her people. She would much rather nap on the couch, preferably on the very top cushion like a tiny queen surveying her kingdom.
She weighs under 5kgs, but her personality is beautifully balanced — playful and curious, then happily crashing into one of her many daily naps.
🐶 Energy & Noise
Amber adores playing with other small breed dogs. She loves a good wrestle and joyful zoom around the yard — then she’s ready to curl up and rest. She isn’t a nuisance barker; if her foster siblings bark she may join in briefly, but she’s not the instigator.
🐶 Social Butterfly
✔ Loves children — currently living beautifully with kids aged 4 and 5 and often sleeping beside them at night.
✔ Adores small breed dogs and thrives on playful companionship.
✔ Has greeted a cat calmly at the vet and shown no interest.
✔ Comfortable around other small animals.
💛 Important: Amber will require another friendly small-breed dog in her forever home.
She absolutely blossoms with canine company. She learns from them, plays with them, naps beside them, and gains confidence from them. A home without another dog would leave a little gap in her world — she truly needs a playful fur-sibling for companionship, comfort, and daily wrestles.
🐶 Daily Joys
Amber’s favourite place? Wherever the “skin kids” are. She follows them around, checks in on them, and even supervises shower time with adorable curiosity.
She enjoys short walks and is learning lead manners (she may pull a little, but at under 5kgs it’s hardly a negotiation). Truthfully, she’s just as happy doing zoomies in the yard with her doggy friends.
She LOVES food — so much that she’ll politely inspect everyone else’s bowl just in case theirs is somehow better (it never is). Treats are taken ever so gently.
Her favourite pastime is playing with soft toys and enjoying gentle tug-of-war before climbing into your lap for cuddles. She looks at you with pure love — the kind that feels intentional and deep.
💛 The Important Part
Amber is not a “special needs” dog in the way people often imagine.
She doesn’t need pity.
She doesn’t need constant medical intervention.
She doesn’t need someone to feel sorry for her.
She needs what every dog needs:
Love.
Safety.
Consistency.
A playful canine companion.
A family who sees her for who she is — not what she’s missing.
The only thing different about Amber is that she has one less leg to trip over during zoomies.
Her heart is whole.
Her joy is contagious.
Her future is bright and pain-free.
If you’ve ever wondered whether you could love a three-legged dog — the answer is yes. Because after five minutes with Amber, you won’t see three legs.
You’ll just see her. 🐾💛
