About Toohey! 🍻
🐾 Meet Toohey – The Boy Who Just Wants to Be Yours 🐾
Toohey is an 8–10 month old Kelpie cross with a big heart, a clever mind, and so much love to give… yet somehow he’s been overlooked for over a month. 💔
While other dogs have come and gone, Toohey is still waiting patiently, watching, hoping that his person will walk through the gates and finally choose him.
And truly… once you get to know him, it’s hard to understand why he’s still here.
Toohey is full of life and personality. He greets people with excitement, wagging his tail and lighting up the moment you arrive. He absolutely adores human company and thrives on connection – he’s the kind of dog who doesn’t just want to live in your home, he wants to be part of your everyday life.
He’s also a smart cookie. Toohey already knows a range of commands like sit, drop, stay and shake, and he even has a few fun tricks up his sleeve like spin and “sit pretty.” In calmer environments he listens beautifully and is eager to please, especially when there’s a treat or a bit of praise involved. Like any young, bright dog, he can get a bit distracted when things are exciting, but his willingness to learn and engage makes him a joy to work with.
When it comes to other dogs, Toohey shines. He is social, playful, and loves a good wrestle and game with canine friends. He may get a little overexcited when he first meets them, but once he settles, he shows lovely, appropriate play behaviour and really enjoys their company.
But the most special thing about Toohey?
His heart.
Toohey is deeply people-oriented. He forms strong bonds and feels happiest when he’s close to his humans. At the facility, he settles best when he’s indoors with staff – lying quietly, playing with toys, or simply relaxing nearby. He’s shown that he is comfortable inside, keeps his space clean, and understands how to live as part of a home.
He isn’t a dog who wants to be left outside on his own all day. Toohey is looking for a home where he can safely spend time indoors, especially when his people are out, so he can feel secure and relaxed rather than worrying about where everyone has gone. With companionship, routine, and a sense of belonging, he truly thrives.
Think of him as your future:
🛋️ Couch companion
🛏️ Bed snuggler
🚶♂️ Walking buddy
💛 Loyal shadow
Toohey will happily follow you from room to room, curl up beside you in the evenings, and be that constant, loving presence in your life.
What Toohey needs:
▪️ A home where he has regular indoor access and is included as part of the family
▪️ People who are home more often than not, or able to provide companionship and routine
▪️ A secure environment where he can feel safe when left alone
▪️ Ongoing training, guidance, and daily exercise to keep his clever mind busy
▪️ A cat-free home
A friendly dog companion could be a wonderful match for him, but more than anything, Toohey just wants his people.
He is still just a young dog, full of potential, love, and joy – ready to grow alongside his new family and become the incredible companion we know he can be.
After spending over a month waiting, Toohey deserves more than being passed by. He deserves a home where he is understood, included, and cherished.
