Meet Jack — professional good boy and part-time mystery breed!
Hi everyone, Jack here. I’m a 4-year-old mixed-breed gentleman who has come into the care of Southern Downs ARK through no fault of my own. My family loved me very much, but housing issues made it hard for them to find a place that would allow more than one dog, so with heavy hearts they asked ARK to help find me a new home.
The good news is that everyone in ARK absolutely loves me. I keep hearing things like “Oh, Jack is such a lovely boy!” which makes my tail wag every time.
I’m a friendly, affectionate chap who adores people, cuddles and attention, and I get along beautifully with other dogs too. I haven't been tested with cats, but I pretty much love everyone, so why not felines?
I’m very keen to please my humans and I’m currently walking so nicely on a lead that one of my very young friends can handle me easily. Check out the videos. I really do want to be the best boy I can be.
My photos were taken at the recent PetBarn Adoption Day, where I was something of a celebrity. Lots of pats, lots of smiles, and apparently I have a very impressive grin.
As for my breed… well, your guess is as good as mine! A bit of this, a dash of that — but whatever the recipe, the result is a very lovable dog.
BREAKING NEWS: The clever people at ARK put my photo through one of those dog breed identifier apps to see what sort of handsome fellow I might be. The verdict? Kelpie x Cattle Dog x Labrador x German Shepherd! Now that’s a bit of a mouthful. Personally, I just think it means I’m a terrific mix of all the best bits — smart, loyal, active and very people-loving.
You might notice I’m losing a little bit of weight. The good news is my waistline is starting to reappear, and I’m feeling fitter and brighter every day.
My dream home would be one where someone is around most of the day because I do love human company. Having another friendly dog to play and sniff around the yard with would be a big bonus too.
If you’re looking for a loyal companion with a big smile and an even bigger heart, I might just be your boy.

Adoption details
Dogs:
(1) The first step is to complete the online adoption application form at https://southerndownsark.com.au/apply-to-adopt/ Please answer all questions and include photos of your yard and fencing.
(2) All applications will be considered by our Adoption Team, following which a "meet and greet" will be offered to the top-ranking applicant.
(3) If the “meet and greet" is successful, the applicant may adopt the dog and take him or her home the same day.
(4) For successful interstate applicants, different arrangements may apply and will be negotiated on a case-by-case basis.
Cats:
If you are interested in one of our cats or kittens, please click on the green "Enquire about ...", button, tell us a bit about yourself and the home you can offer the cat, and one of our volunteers will be in touch.
