Duke

Duke is a big, beautiful young dog with the heart and enthusiasm of an oversized puppy. He is incredibly affectionate and would happily be a lap dog if his 32kg frame allowed it. Duke adores human company (“the more the merrier”) and forms strong bonds with his people, always looking for ways to be involved. One of his most endearing quirks is offering his paw the moment he sits beside you to politely ask for attention, and when he’s excited he explodes into happy zoomies that are impossible not to smile at. He loves playing tug-of-war and fetch, and being very food-motivated, he will do almost anything for a treat — making him a great candidate for further training.

Duke has grown up with young children (ages 5, 4 and 2) and has been wonderfully tolerant and gentle with them, even when they climb on him, cuddle him, or pull his tail. He is friendly with other dogs and enjoys meeting new canine friends, and while he hasn’t been tested with cats, he is described as submissive and very good with other animals. He can be a little wary at first when strangers arrive and may bark to alert, but he settles quickly once he knows there is no threat and then just wants pats and affection.

He walks well on lead, has some recall, knows basic commands (come, sit, paw), rides well in the car, and has good house manners. Duke would thrive with regular daily exercise (medium energy), enrichment, and most importantly, companionship — as he doesn’t cope well being alone for long periods. A home with a secure yard would suit him well, and while acreage would be a dream, it’s not essential as long as he receives consistent walks, playtime, and love. In return, Duke will offer unwavering loyalty, endless affection, and the joyful presence of a dog who truly just wants to be part of a family. 💛
