About Socks
Introducing: a large tan goofball (35kg+) with the soul of a comedian and the cuddle skills of a professional.
This big, sweet boy is basically a gentle giant who missed the memo that he’s “supposed” to be intimidating. His hobbies include: collecting soft toys, perfecting his head-tilt technique, and gluing himself to your side like a warm, snoring shadow.
Personality: goofy + gentle + secretly brave
He’s a total sweetheart who’ll have you smiling daily — especially when unfamiliar noises (TV, music, appliances… existence) trigger his signature “Wait… what was THAT?” head tilt.
He can be timid when faced with new things, but he’s also got a brave streak: after a moment of “nope,” he’ll often circle back to investigate like a cautious little detective.
The good stuff (aka his resume)
Friendly with people – loves meeting new humans and making more fans. Might be a bit boisterous for very small children though.
Dog social – enjoys meeting new dogs and is keen for a play. Has not been tested with cats.
Big dog, soft heart – he’s over 35kg but is ridiculously gentle with soft toys. (Yes, he can be trusted with a teddy. No, he won’t shred it instantly. He’s a rare unicorn.)
Toilet trained – a mature gentleman.
Dog door graduate – learned it fast and now acts like he invented it.
Great on lead – walks nicely, though other big dogs can be briefly very interesting… but he redirects well with a gentle tug and moving along.
Knows the basics – sit, stay, wait (and is clearly proud of himself).
A few honest notes (because we want him set up to win)
This lovely boy was found as a stray and has clearly had a rough past. He’s very hand-shy, so he likely wasn’t treated kindly before rescue. He’s not aggressive — just scared — and he needs a home that speaks fluent patience, calm, and gentle handling.
Also: cars are not his favourite. If you’re dreaming of a dog who loves road trips… he’s more the “I’ll stay home and guard the couch” type. He can improve with slow positive training, but he’d do best in a home where car travel isn’t a big part of life.
Ideal home
He’d love someone who:
understands shy dogs and lets trust build at his pace
is confident with a big dog (35kg of love still takes up space on the bed… and the couch… and your personal bubble)
enjoys playtime, cuddles, and a dog who will be your loyal sidekick
uses reward-based training to build confidence.
Final summary
He’s big, playful, sweet, and hilariously funny — a gentle giant who wants nothing more than to feel safe, loved, and included.
If you’ve got a kind heart, a steady vibe, and room on your couch… he’s ready to move in and steal your soft toys (and your heart).
** Sox requires an ACL repair in the very near future but Forever Friends Animal Rescue will be arranging and funding this at their own expense - it will not be the adopter's responsibility to cover any of the costs.
