About Elvis
PLEASE NOTE THAT UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE UNABLE TO FLY OUR ANIMALS EITHER WITHIN WA OR INTERSTATE
**Before applying, please remember that adopting a puppy into your home is a huge commitment, and very demanding of your time. Puppies require daily exercise, positive and varied socialisation, grooming, training and playtime. When applying, please consider your work hours, holidays, and how busy your personal life is. Puppies will need someone who is home for most of the day with regular focused input, especially in those first six months after adoption **
NAME: Elvis - adoption fee $900 which covers all vet work
BEFORE SAFE ESPERANCE: Came to SAFE as an owner surrender with his sister Delilah
BREED: Jack Russell x
BREED TRAITS: Jack Russells are lively, independent and clever. They are trainable but have a mind of their own and if bored can dig and chew. Terriers are devoted to their people, affectionate and love being with them so cannot be left for long periods. Careful and sensitive socialisation from a young age is a must as they are small dogs with big personalities.
************************************************************************
ASSETS: Affectionate, friendly, confident, active, playful and very sweet. He loves everyone he meets!
FAVOURITE THINGS: Elvis loves to play wrestle with Delilah and enjoys playing tug with his toys, chasing a ball and playing with squeaky toys. He is a typical puppy with bursts of energy where he plays for a while then settles down for a snooze before waking up and doing it all over again!
ENDEARING FEATURES: His foster carer describes him as a tiny soft ball of fluff who loves to follow him around. He’s a cheeky boy who loves to push the boundaries and with his markings he looks like a dog cuddly toy!
OTHER ANIMALS: Being a young puppy, he will get on well with other friendly dogs after gentle, supervised introductions. He could live with a dog-savvy, confident cat, again after gentle introduction.
GENERAL INFO: Elvis will need training for pretty much everything being so young. Housetraining is underway but he still has some way to go to master it. Expect accidents while he’s settling into his new home and routine! He’ll benefit greatly from puppy school and ongoing classes into adulthood where he can learn and socialise with other dogs; this is a commitment we will expect from his new owner.
ESSENTIALS for Elvis:
** a loving home where someone is there for most of the day, essential in the first six months after adoption
** a home where he is treated as part of the family and is allowed to be inside or out as he needs and to sleep inside at night
** a decent sized, well fenced garden where he can run, play, sniff and explore in safety
** attendance at puppy school and continued training into adulthood for him to learn and grow confidence – essential. Please give your puppy direction and fair boundaries to engender balance in his growth
** continued positive, gentle exposure and socialisation
Elvis will have bursts of energy while a pup and we envisage will be medium to high energy at times as an adult dog but as we don’t know his breed mix this is hard to quantify – he will let you know how much exercise/interaction he needs as he grows. He could live with another young dog with similar energy to him or have regular interactions with other friendly dogs.
Elvis could live with dog-savvy caring children over 12 years of age, who will interact with him gently but also know when to give him space. We encourage new owners, especially with children, to work with a crate to allow the pup space and 'down' time. These puppies have not been raised with children, so owners need to be very aware of boundaries both for children and pups - being small dogs please remember that they are not toys and will require respectful handling and gentle interactions.
Due to his young age, Elvis will be available to adopt from the week of 16 February.
If Elvis sounds like the perfect fit for your family, please send an enquiry and we’ll be in touch soon.
