BRUNO: SURVIVOR. FIGHTER. FUTURE FAMILY MEMBER?

Darling little Bruno is a 11-month-old German Shepherd and has experienced extreme neglect and cruelty. Bruno was rescued by the RSPCA, he was so emaciated, dehydrated and weak that he couldn’t stand for 3 days, he was quite literally starving to death and only weighed 15kgs at 10 months old. Bruno was rushed to the vet and placed on a drip to save his life; he has been recovering in the shelter and thankfully is doing much better. Bruno is now ready to find a forever home that will give him unconditional love to help him forget all about his past.

Bruno has lived an isolated life; it is believed the dogs on the property never ventured outside their yard and as a result are lacking in socialisation and exposure to the outside world. Despite this, Bruno is a cuddly, sweet boy that enjoys interacting with people once he feels safe, he is learning that humans are kind, and a source of fun, that cuddles and affection are normal.

Bruno is still very much a youngster and, like many pups, can get excited and jump up or become a little mouthy. He’s searching for an experienced family, where everyone is over the age of 8, who can guide him, set clear boundaries, and continue his training. Bruno is incredibly food motivated and eager to learn; although he doesn’t yet know many commands, he picks things up quickly and will flourish with consistent effort.

Bruno is very conflicted around other dogs, whilst he has grown up with other dogs on the same property, he hasn’t been exposed to new dogs up close and doesn’t know how to say hello. Bruno will use his big deep bark to tell other dogs to go away but also can give high pitched barks wanting to get closer, he doesn’t know what he wants and works himself into a frustrated, stressed state whenever he sees another dog.

For now, Bruno needs to be the only dog in his new home. Bruno will need to work on his socialisation and interactions with other dogs long-term, learning to ignore them, before eventually learning how to approach and engage in an appropriate way. We highly recommend Bruno and his new family works with a professional trainer to help build his confidence. He has not been tested with cats or other small pets.

Bruno will be an active dog as he grows and is looking for someone that can give him the physical exercise and mental stimulation a young German Shepherd needs to keep out of mischief. He loves enrichment toys including snuffle mats and kongs, he is a clever little cookie and an excellent problem solver.

This sweet boy has had the worst start, he nearly lost his life due to extreme neglect, however he is a fighter and has come out the other side strong and ready to start his second chance at life! Now he just needs someone to take him under their wing and show him how great life can be.
